Serena Williams recently opened up about a first-time experience that brought her closer to her daughters, Olympia and Adira River. Williams revealed that she had never enjoyed a traditional sleepover as a child. However, she recently made up for lost time, sharing a heartwarming moment of bonding with her girls during a family sleepover, which she described as "fun" and "normal."

For Williams, childhood was anything but conventional. From age three, tennis became her primary focus, demanding sacrifices that shaped her path to greatness. Growing up with her sisters, including fellow tennis champion Venus Williams, meant that while Serena was surrounded by companionship, the concept of traditional childhood activities like sleepovers was foreign.

"So, my girls always say that I'm not normal and I didn't get a normal life. So last night we had a sleepover and I've never really had a sleepover. Well, I had sisters all the time so I guess I didn't need a sleepover," Williams shared candidly in a video posted on TikTok.

In the TikTok video, posted on December 4, 2024, Williams detailed her recent sleepover adventure with Olympia (7) and Adira (1). She described setting up extra cots in her bedroom and creating a cozy environment where they could all enjoy each other's company.

"So everyone, we all stayed in my room and we got extra cots and we jumped in the bed. It was fun. It was a lot of fun," she recounted with a smile.

Williams also humorously noted how her daughters often tease her for not having a "normal" life, a result of her early start in tennis and the sacrifices that followed.

"They're like, what have you ever done that was, have you ever done anything normal? Because you know, I started playing tennis at literally three years old. I have just always been playing and I never really, you know, you have to make a lot of sacrifices. Like of course I had friends, actually one of my best friends is Drea and I've known her since fourth grade," she added.

"My life is very different now. Instead of chasing balls, I’m chasing #Adira and helping #Olympia with tennis lessons and cooking. (And, all this is in-between Venture Capital calls)," Williams wrote.
