Serena Williams' husband Alexis Ohanian reiterated his commitment to ensure the growth of women's sports with a four-word reaction. The reaction stemmed from an individual acknowledging the Reddit co-founder's desire to invest in NCAA women's basketball, which he voiced recently.

On Monday, December 23, Serena Williams' husband Alexis Ohanian shared a video of a conversation he had with rapper and college basketball player Flau'Jae Johnson. Johnson asked the Reddit co-founder:

"Would you ever consider owning a WNBA team?"

To this, Ohanian replied, revisiting a past exchange with current NBA commissioner Adam Silver.

"I had a conversation with Adam Silver years ago. College basketball was so clearly the battleground for women, and there's a tweet from me asking the NCAA to sell me the rights to women's college basketball, because I was way more interested in figuring out how to make that viable," Ohanian said.

Serena Williams' husband went on to recall the lack of investment from the NCAA in college women's sports.

"Ironically, the NCAA had been so under-investing in the college women - remember the weight room fiasco, not being able to even say 'March Madness'. So I mean, just imagine, you're taking a thing that today is driving all of the attention - and that attention means revenue - and four years ago, the stars weren't even getting a weight room to train in, and couldn't even get the branding because they thought it was too precious and belonged to the men," Ohanian added.

Ohanian concluded by opining that in today's times one simply can't dismiss the potential of women's sports.

"In this country, capitalism sort of trumps everything. And so, all the people in my replies would say like, "Oh, no one cares about women's sports," you cannot make that argument now because the dollars don't lie. And NIL made it so crystal clear that you all were so valuable, and they just had been dropping the ball for decades," he concluded.

Alexis Ohanian captioned the X post:

"Women's college basketball is up next, I'll tell you that right now. @Flaujae asked if I'd considered investing in the WNBA, but my sights are set on NCAA Women's Basketball. It's not just talk – look no further than my recent announcement that my first big investment into the space will be with a multi-year commitment to @UVAWomensHoops"

Another X user noticed the Reddit co-founder's post and suggested that it won't be long before Ohanian acts on his words.

"He’s gonna put action behind his words every time," the user wrote.

Here, Serena Williams' husband came up with a four-word reaction, writing:

"Only way to be"

Ohanian recently fired back at a critic after the Reddit co-founder's brave prediction for women's sports was dismissed.

In November 2024, Serena Williams' husband Alexis Ohanian spoke at Sportico's Invest in Sports conference, where he claimed that there will be a women's sports franchise worth a billion dollars by 2030. He recently shared a video of the same on X and reiterated his stance with the caption:

"As I said at the @Sportico Business of Women's Sports Panel, there will be a $B women's sports franchise by 2030. Mark my words!"

An X user later skeptically dismissed Ohanian's prediction, opining that such a development would only be possible if there is significant inflation in the economy. The Reddit co-founder didn't stay silent, and clapped back at the user citing the growth in value of Angel City FC, the women's soccer franchise co-owned by Ohanian along with a host of high-profile entrepreneurs and celebrities.

"I paid $1M for the ACFC expansion fee in 2020. Today the team is worth $300M post money. Save your skeptical tweet!" Ohanian fired back.

Ohanian is happily married to Serena Williams, with the couple being parents to daughters Olympia and Adira River.
