Serena Williams' husband Alexis Ohanian drops 2-word reaction days after his $1 million donation as UVA women's basketball starts 2025 with win

Serena Williams' husband, Alexis Ohanian, seemed delighted as Virginia Women's Basketball kicked off the 2025 season with an impressive win over Wake Forest. Ohanian, an alumnus of the University of Virginia, recently made a generous donation for its basketball program.

Ohanian took the significant step on Thursday, December 12, 2024. While the exact amount was initially undisclosed, it was the largest contribution ever to the Cavalier women’s basketball program and the second-largest to UVA’s women’s athletics.

The Reddit co-founder later revealed that he donated over a million dollars to the program.

A few days later, Virginia Women's Basketball, part of UVA's athletic program, secured then first win of the season, defeating Wake Forest 69-46 in the Atlantic Coast Conference. Kymora Johnson played a key role in the victory, contributing 16 points, 7 rebounds, and 8 assists, while Breona Hurd added 15 points, 6 rebounds, and an assist.

The official X handle of Virginia Women's Basketball shared the stats on X and wrote:

"Starting 2025 with an ACC DUB 😤"

Serena Williams' husband later reacted to the post and wrote:

"Let’s GO 💪"

Alexis Ohanian is a passionate advocate for women's sports and has made significant efforts to promote the cause. Recently, the 41-year-old expressed his intention to expand his involvement in the NCAA women's basketball scene.

Speaking at the 'Best of Both Worlds' event, Serena Williams' husband Alexis Ohanian criticized the National Collegiate Athletic Association for not making sufficient investments in women’s basketball. He also expressed his desire to invest in women's college basketball.

Ohanian re-shared the conversation on X and revealed that his sights were set on NCAA Women's Basketball.

"Women's college basketball is up next, I'll tell you that right now. @Flaujae asked if I'd considered investing in the WNBA, but my sights are set on NCAA Women's Basketball," he wrote.

The Reddit co-founder added that his first major investment in the field would be a multi-year commitment to UVA Women's Basketball.

"It's not just talk – look no further than my recent announcement that my first big investment into the space will be with a multi-year commitment to @UVAWomensHoops," he added.

Another significant step by Ohanian to promote women's sports was co-producing Off Season, a reality web series showcasing 11 NWSL players training together in Miami during the 2024 off-season. The X-exclusive series quickly gained widespread attention.
