Serena Williams' husband Alexis Ohanian applauded the Washington Commanders for their incredible win over the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday night in AT&T stadium. Despite being the favorites for the win, the former trailed behind until the final minute of the match, when the team scored a touchdown after Marcus Mariota tossed to Terry McLaurin.
Reacting to this win, Ohanian was quick to extend his congratulations to the Washington Commanders, who are valued at $6.3 billion by Forbes. Taking to X, the American wrote:
“Never in doubt! OK, I was pretty doubtful we'd win this game until the final seconds, but you love to see the team rally and find their mojo under QB2 Mariota.”
With this win, the Commanders have secured the No. 6 seed in the NFC and will play the Tampa Bay Buccaneers next weekend. Ohanian also showed his enthusiasm for this upcoming clash, writing on X:
“See y’all in Tampa. If you’re a @Commanders fan and see me at the game I’ll buy you a drink.”
Serena Williams and Alexis Ohanian first met in 2015 in Rome. The pair quickly grew close and were engaged in October 2016. They welcomed their first daughter, Olympia in September 2017, and married two months later. The couple welcomed their second daughter, Adira, in 2022.
Serena Williams owns a team in the NFL
While Alexis Ohanian is a big fan of the Washington Commanders, Serena Williams owns a stake in the NFL team Miami Dolphins. In 2009, the tennis star, alongside her sister Venus Williams, bought a small portion of the team's shares. This made the duo the first Black women to become team owners in the NFL.
At the time, Williams had told People magazine that she was excited to be a part of the team owned by Stephen Ross, saying:
"I am so excited to be part of such a renowned organization. Having spent so much of my childhood in the area, being involved with a staple of Miami culture is a huge honor. We look forward to many championships and much success together with the Miami Dolphins.”
Outside of the Dolphins, Serena Williams is also the owner of a team in the National Women's Soccer League (NWSL). In 2020, she, alongside her husband Ohanian, was announced as a part of the ownership group of the Los Angeles-based NWSL team Angel City. The duo's daughter, Olympia, was also listed as an owner of the team.
