Serena Williams' husband Alexis Ohanian recently gave a shoutout to Andy Roddick after bagging the former World No.1's rare NetPro card. Ohanian admitted that he was actually looking for his wife's card but was pleasantly surprised to find Roddick's card.
Ohanian is an avid collector and is often seen collecting items from cards to comics, or any other thing that piques his interest. Recently what caught his collector mind's attention was the NetPro cards, which is the first brand to produce officially licensed tennis trading cards. The company has been a fan favorite for over 30 years having started in 1991.
The Reddit co-founder went on a hunt to obtain his wife's NetPro card but was unsuccessfully in his search. However, it was not all bad news for the American, who obtained an Andy Roddick rookie card. Ohanian also mentioned how this card was rare since there were only 2000 of this ever made.
“I must have ripped ~100 of these 2003 NetPro packs looking for Serena, but gotta admit this rookie card of @andyroddick is pretty awesome too – only 2000 were ever made! Learn more about the card & check out my full collection on @onMantel,” Serena Williams' husband posted on X.
Serena Williams and Andy Roddick have been friends since childhood and there has also been a hilarious tale about a match the duo played when they were about 11 years old.
"Any chance she gets, she does it to get under my skin" - Andy Roddick on how Serena Williams teases her over his 1993 loss
Andy Roddick and Serena Williams faced each other in a one set match in 1993 where Williams seemed to have gotten the better of Roddick. Roddick hilariously said how Williams would always remind him of his defeat any chance she got.
"Any chance she gets, she just does it to get under my skin, and she does it very successfully," he said after reaching the quarterfinals of the 2009 Australian Open.
When told that the 23-time Major champion had said that she won 6-1, the former ATP No. 1 quipped that it was 6-4.
"She's good at not letting the truth get in the way of a good story sometimes, I think it was 6-4. We just spent hours and hours out there just playing,'' Roddick said. "We all have done pretty well, and all three of those little kids out there got to No. 1, which is pretty cool.''
During a press conference of hers, Serena Williams joked that she didn't need to have a rematch with Andy Roddick since she won. Here's the clip:
However, in an interesting turn of events, their ex-coach Rick Macci recently posted on X that it was Roddick who had won the one-set match between the then-future World No. 1s.
