The first Sony PlayStation, released in Japan on December 3, 1994, revolutionized the gaming industry. Priced at ¥39,800, it was an immediate hit, boasting over 100,000 units sold on its first day. North America saw its release on September 9, 1995, priced at $299.

Serena Williams' husband Alexis Ohanian shared that his entrepreneurial journey, which led to the founding of Reddit, was sparked by a video game. In June 2020, Ohanian resigned from Reddit's board in protest following the tragic killing of George Floyd.

On December 10, 2023, Ohanian shared on social media that the 1993 video game 'Doom' and the book 'Masters of Doom: How Two Guys Created an Empire and Transformed Pop Culture' by David Kushner were key influences behind the founding of Reddit.

"My parents wouldn't let me buy this game...😏 But it still managed to change my life because it got me hooked on learning to code so I could build my own games... Starting with mods... Years later I read Masters of Doom and decided I could start a tech company, too: @Reddit," Ohanian posted on X (formerly Twitter).
