Serena Williams' husband Alexis Ohanian made to reflect on 'past mistakes' in relationships & business partnerships after major epiphany

Serena Williams' husband and Reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanian shared that he had a major epiphany after reflecting on past mistakes he made in personal relationships and business partnerships. He expressed that this epiphany was sparked by learning about the "Michelangelo Effect."

Ohanian is a tech entrepreneur who co-founded Reddit in 2005 and has since launched several other companies and his own venture capital firm, Seven Seven Six (776).

Recently, Ohanian took to social media to share a video featuring American actor Matthew McConaughey and English podcaster Chris Williamson discussing the Michelangelo Effect on Williamson's podcast, the Modern Wisdom Podcast.

In the video, Williamson explains that the Michelangelo Effect occurs when partners, friends, spouses, and anyone close to a person affirm each other's ideals and strengths to promote positive growth over time.

“The Michelangelo Effect describes a situation in a relationship, friendship or intimate partnership where each partner sees the best in the other and tries to help bring that out. So the sum of the parts is greater than it is individually. I think in life we want to be finding people that believe in you more than you believe in you. They hold you to higher standards,” Chris Williamson said.

McConaughey added that this is the essence of what a friend or spouse should be - always reminding the other of their best qualities.

“I think that’s the definition of a good friend. I think the definition of a good partner. It's the definition of a good husband, wife. You know that they remind us of the best of ourselves,” Matthew McConaughey added.

Serena Williams' husband Ohanian expressed that learning about the Michelangelo Effect made him realize his past mistakes, both personally and in business.

“41 years old and I finally learned of this "Michelangelo Effect" that perfectly explains the kind of partnerships you should seek - business OR personal. And it's making me reflect on my past mistakes 😫 ,” Ohanian posted on X (formerly known as Twitter).

Serena Williams and Alexis Ohanian first met in May 2015 at the Cavalieri Hotel in Rome, where they later got engaged in 2016.

Their first daughter, Olympia Ohanian, was born on September 1, 2017, and they got married two months later on November 16, 2017, at the Contemporary Arts Center in New Orleans. Their youngest daughter, Adira River Ohanian, was born last year in August.

Last month, during an interview with Lingo, Ohanian reminisced about his first date with Williams. He revealed that the 23-time Grand Slam champion had brought along her agent and assistant as chaperones for the date.

The former World No. 1 stated that the reason she brought her agent and assistant was because she was not familiar with him at the time.

“This is the first date where you had two chaperones with you - your agent and your assistant," Ohanian said.

“Because I didn't know you and I didn't know your game. I didn't know what you were about. I didn't know anything so I had to bring backup," Serena Williams replied.

Serena Williams and Alexis Ohanian celebrated their seventh wedding anniversary in November this year. To mark the occasion, they took their daughters Olympia and Adira to New Orleans, specifically to the venue where they got married.
