Serena Williams' husband and Reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanian lauded WNBA standout Caitlin Clark for achieving the Time Athlete of the Year honor. Recently, Clark also secured a $28 million brand deal with Nike, the largest ever for a female basketball player.
Ohanian, a strong advocate for women's sports, was the lead investor of Angel City FC, a National Women's Soccer League franchise that started playing in 2022. He also co-created the reality TV series The Offseason with NJ/NY Gotham FC’s Midge Purce, offering fans a peak into the personal and professional journeys of the top NWSL players. His latest venture, Seven Seven Six, recently hosted the Athlos NYC, a women-only track event with a prize pool six times more than the Diamond League's.
Serena Williams' husband recently took to his X handle to congratulate the WNBA player for Indiana Fever on receiving the Time Athlete of the Year honor.
"Congrats @CaitlinClark22 — well deserved! We're all excited to see what 2025 brings," he remarked.
Caitlin Clark is considered the greatest collegiate player of all time for her stellar statistics, earning two National Player of the Year awards with the Iowa Hawkeyes. She broke the all-time conference record in assists and became the Division I women's career and single-season leader in points and three-pointers.
The Indiana Fever selected her first overall for the 2024 WNBA draft. She clinched the WNBA Rookie of the Year in her debut season with 66 of 67 votes, becoming the first rookie to achieve a triple-double, set the single-game record in assists, and break the rookie scoring record.
As the only college player, she even received an invitation from the National team to attend the final Paris Olympics training camp.
Serena Williams' husband Alexis Ohanian supported the $150,000 bid on Caitlin Clark's game-worn jersey
Caitlin Clark earned the most 30-point games in women's Division I history, outpacing Washington Huskies' athlete Kelsey Plum in her senior season 2023-24. She also became the Big Ten's all-time leading scorer, surpassing Ohio State's Kelsey Mitchell with her effort.
In honor of her success, a jersey-collector took to his X handle to put up Clark's game-worn jersey for $150,000 with the caption:
"Putting out a $150,000 bounty for Caitlin Clark’s game worn Iowa jersey from this season. If anyone gets it after the Final 4, I’m here."
In response, Ohanian expressed joy at learning that people are valuing women's sports.
"While I think this is a great moment for game-worn community finally starting to recognize the value of women's sports, I've told @CaitlinClark22 for over a year now to save & label all her own gear post-match. She knows the value — as should all athletes — and should keep it."
Serena Williams and Alexis Ohanian got married on November 16, 2017 and welcomed their first daughter Alexis Olympia Ohanian on September 1, 2017.
