Serena Williams' husband Alexis Ohanian reacts in 1 word after e-mail that led to his Reddit founding emerges

Serena Williams' husband, Alexis Ohanian, recently reacted to the email that led to his founding of Reddit. Reddit is a social news platform where users share content, vote on it, and join topic-based communities called subreddits.

Ohanian co-founded Reddit in 2005 with his college roommate Steff Huffman from the University of Virginia and Aaron Swartz. The platform has since grown to employ over 2,000 people and, according to Macrotrends, is valued at $13.42 billion.

On Tuesday, a user on X shared the email that marked the beginning of the startup and Ohanian took a screenshot of it and posted it on his instagram story with the caption “Bro”.

In the email, Ohanian narrated to his co-founders how he pitched the idea to Mark White while in Singapore. He said that Mark White considered their pitch the best he had heard from students and expressed interest in joining the board, as well as helping to secure startup capital.

“I'm in singapore at this technopreneurial seminar, and am basically spending a week learning how to create a tech start-up.i spoke to Mark White over some drinks last nite, and pitched him on our idea...from his feedback -and let me remind you that he gets pitches every couple of months from students, and was very candid and honest with his thoughts, but basically said it was one of the best he's heard, period,” he said.

“Not only that, but he wants to be on the board of directors, and already knows some people to hit up for starting capital... ” Ohanian added.

Serena Williams' husband Alexis Ohanian resigned from Reddit's board in June 2020, influenced by the Black Lives Matter movement. He urged the company to appoint a Black board member, pledging $1 million to Colin Kaepernick's Know Your Rights Camp.

Award-winning musician Snoop Dogg was among the early investors in Reddit. In 2014, when Reddit had a reported valuation of $500 million, the platform secured backing from the American rapper, who participated in a $50 million funding round led by Sam Altman.

In May 2024, Serena Williams' husband Alexis Ohanian caught up with Snoop Dogg during his visit to Los Angeles and expressed his appreciation for the rapper's support in the past through a post on X.

“Beautiful day in LA. I appreciate this city so much. Got to catch up with a lot of friends. Some of you may know @SnoopDogg was one of our earliest investors at @reddit during our spin-out & turnaround. Very few people wanted to invest in us back then. Snoop did. And ya never forget your Day Ones,” Ohanian tweeted.

Apart from business, Ohanian is also a huge fan of sports and an advocate for women's sports. He and his wife Serena often attend tennis matches together.
