Serena Williams' husband, Alexis Ohanian, has raised concerns about the growing incel culture online. The 41-year-old proposed a solution that he believes could prevent men from falling victim to the harmful online subculture.
Although Ohanian is the co-founder of Reddit, he has never shied away from sounding the alarm over the dangers of the internet. In fact, he and Serena Williams have made a conscious effort to "tightly control" their daughter Olympia's internet usage, with the seven-year-old only being allowed to use the web to play Roblox with family and friends.
Alexis Ohanian recently took to social media and shared his fears about the "thriving incel culture" online, issuing a message of caution about how the crisis is likely to only get worse if it isn't addressed.
"Incel culture is real, and thriving online. As more and more young men realize the world is passing them by, faster than ever, I fear the crisis is only gonna get worse," Ohanian posted on X.
Ohanian suggested that encouraging young men to adopt the mindset of creating something meaningful and being productive could combat the "toxic traits" that led to excessive social media activity.
"How do we scale @jockowillink? Like imagine every young man finding this mindset and purpose early. Be useful. Be productive. Extreme ownership. Many of the toxic traits that lead to all the twitter fingers go away because you literally have no time - you’re too busy winning," he commented.
"The future I’m working on is one my daughters deserve" - Serena Williams' husband Alexis Ohanian on his vision for 'social media 2.0'
Serena Williams' husband, Alexis Ohanian, recently shed light on his vision for "social media 2.0," expressing his belief that its future iteration wouldn't be centered around likes or views but would instead prioritize connecting with "actual friends."
The Reddit co-founder emphasized that his work on a "human and meaningful" future was inspired by his desire to provide his daughters, Olympia and Adira, with the experience they deserved.
"Social media 2.0 won’t be about likes or views—it’ll be building real connections with others. Talked to @jayshetty about how the next generation of consumer social will be about connecting with your *actual* friends. (s/o @airbudswidget). The future I’m working on is one my daughters deserve: authentic, human, and meaningful," Ohanian posted on X.
Despite his worries about the negative aspects of the internet, Alexis Ohanian has expressed his determination to ensure that his and Serena Williams' daughters, Olympia and Adira, are equipped with computer skills so they wouldn't have to rely on anyone else.
