Serena Williams and Alexis Ohanian are a power couple in the tennis world, and the latter recently opened up about how his children influence his business decisions. Williams and Ohanian share two daughters together, and often speak on what it's like balancing work and family.
While Serena Williams redefined the game of women's singles, Ohanian is best known as the co-founder of Reddit. The 41-year-old recently invited Nick Thompson, former editor-in-chief at Wired magazine, on his ‘Business Dad' podcast, where the two spoke about their work and family. Outlining an important takeaway from their discussion, Ohanian wrote in X,
“Kids made him (Thompson) better at work. He became more aware of needing to add value to the world, knowing that one day his kids would grow up and be able to see everything he'd done. I feel this. As a parent, you want to take actions today that your kids will be proud of tomorrow.”
Serena Williams and Alexis Ohanian first met in Rome in 2015 and got married two years later. The duo are vocal about their relationship and often share insights of their life with fans.
Serena Williams on balancing work and parenthood
Serena Williams welcomed her first child, a daughter named Olympia, back in 2017, when she was dominating the tennis world. A few years later, Williams gave birth to her second daughter Adira, after she had called time on her career on the courts.
Despite retiring from tennis, the 43-year-old leads a hectic schedule, and once opened up about dealing with ‘mom guilt’. The American confessed that she sometimes struggles to balance work and parenthood, telling Cosmopolitan,
“Mum guilt is real. I always feel so guilty when I'm doing something on my own. I don't know if I'm a good mum. I don't know if my method works. I've set really good boundaries, but then after work, I'm going right to my daughter. And that's amazing and good, but now it's like, 'Okay, what happens to Serena?'”
Serena Williams rose to fame in 1999 when she claimed her first Grand Slam title at the US Open. She would then go on to win 22 more singles major titles, the most in the Open Era. She was also ranked World No.1 by the WTA for 319 weeks. Her doubles exploits saw the American claim 14 major women's doubles titles, as well as two mixed doubles Grand Slam titles.
