Serena Williams' husband Alexis Ohanian sends warning message to gambling addicts: "Don't let it destroy your life"

Serena Williams' husband, Alexis Ohanian, recently issued a warning message to individuals struggling with gambling addiction. Ohanian stated that it is important that people do not allow gambling to negatively impact their lives and in turn "destroy" them.

Ohanian is a tech entrepreneur who co-founded Reddit in 2005. After resigning from his role as executive chairman in 2020, he went on to establish his own venture capital firm, Seven Seven Six (776), and has invested in numerous startups and tech projects.

The Reddit co-founder is also a strong advocate for the growth and development of women's sports and has made investments in various sports teams to support this cause.

Ohanian recently took to social media to address the issue of gambling addiction. He mentioned that gambling addiction is "real" and he expressed gratitude for being able to channel his risk-taking tendencies into early-stage investing and business development

“Gambling addiction is real, folks. Thankful I feed my risk appetite through early stage investing and building companies," Ohanian posted on X (formerly known as Twitter).

Serena Williams' husband also shared the National Problem Gambling Helpline number and expressed that gambling can be entertaining but cautioned against allowing it to spiral out of control and "destroy" one's life.

“1-800-GAMBLER is there 24-7 for US and Canada. Gambling is fun and adults have the freedom to be adults and make bad choices, but don’t let it destroy your life," he added in the same thread.

Talking about choices, Ohanian reflected on his 'past mistakes' after he recently learned about the Michelangelo Effect and it shed light on the same.

Serena Williams' husband, Alexis Ohanian had revealed that he had reflected on his past personal and business mistakes after learning about the Michelangelo Effect.

Ohanian shared a video of podcaster Chris Williamson speaking with actor Matthew McConaughey about the Michelangelo Effect on his podcast, the Modern Wisdom Podcast. He said:

“The Michelangelo Effect describes a situation in a relationship, friendship or intimate partnership where each partner sees the best in the other and tries to help bring that out. So the sum of the parts is greater than it is individually. I think in life we want to be finding people that believe in you more than you believe in you. They hold you to higher standards.”

McConaughey replied:

“I think that’s the definition of a good friend. I think the definition of a good partner. It's the definition of a good husband, wife. You know that they remind us of the best of ourselves.”

After listening to Williamson and McConaughey's discussion on the Michelangelo Effect, Ohanian mentioned that he recognized the mistakes he had made in both his personal and professional life.

“41 years old and I finally learned of this "Michelangelo Effect" that perfectly explains the kind of partnerships you should seek - business OR personal. And it's making me reflect on my past mistakes 😫 ,” Ohanian posted on X.

Serena Williams and Alexis Ohanian first met in 2015 and got engaged in 2016. Their daughter, Olympia Ohanian, was born on September 1, 2017, and they tied the knot two months later on November 16, 2017. Their youngest daughter, Adira River Ohanian, was born in August last year.
