Serena Williams' husband Alexis Ohanian recently reacted to Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang's sentiments about suffering and success. Huang, a highly accomplished entrepreneur and electrical engineer with a net worth of $120 billion (as per Celebrity Net Worth), conveyed a novel idea a few months ago about how suffering and resilience pave the way to success.
The American-Taiwanese shared this perspective while addressing the students at his alma mater, Stanford University.
"People with very high expectations have very low resilience. And unfortunately resilience matters in success. I don't know how to teach it to you, except, I hope suffering happens to you. And I was fortunate, that I grew up with my parents providing a condition for us to be successful on the one hand, but there were plenty of opportunities for setback and suffering. And to this day I used the word pain and suffering inside our company with great glee, and I mean that," he said.
The 61-year-old further highlighted that greatness stemmed from character, not intelligence, and that character was built through enduring hardships. Huang encouraged Stanford students to embrace challenges, as overcoming adversity fosters resilience and drives growth. For those unaware, he is an alumnus of Stanford University, having graduated in 1992.
"Boy this is going to cause a lot of pain and suffering, and I mean that in a happy way. Because you want to train, you want to refine the character of your company. You want greatness out of them. And greatness, is not intelligence as you know, greatness comes from character, and character isn't formed out of smart people, it's formed out of people who have suffered. And if I could wish up on you, I don't know how to do it, but for all of you Stanford students, I wish upon you ample doses of pain and sufferings," he added.

Serena Williams' husband Alexis Ohanian on shared how the children influence the business actions of an entrepreneur
A few days ago, Serena Williams' husband Alexis Ohanian invited Nick Thompson, editor-in-chief of Wired magazine, onto his "Business Dad" podcast. The conversation provided a platform to explore Thompson's experience as a "business dad."
Ohanian reflected that having children motivated Thompson to add value to the world, knowing they would one day see his efforts. The 41-year-old resonated with this perspective.
“Kids made him (Thompson) better at work. He became more aware of needing to add value to the world, knowing that one day his kids would grow up and be able to see everything he'd done. I feel this. As a parent, you want to take actions today that your kids will be proud of tomorrow," he wrote on X.
Alexis Ohanian married Serena Williams in 2017, two months after their daughter Olympia was born. Moreover, their younger daughter Adira was born in August, last year.
