Alexis Ohanian, the co-founder of Reddit, who is married to tennis legend Serena Williams, trolled Republican supporters over a speech by former President Ronald Reagan amid the nationwide ruckus over H-1B visas.

Ohanian's remark came in response to a video posted on X by the account "pbit" which showed Republican President Ronald Reagan, who served two consecutive terms from 1981 to 1989, hailing America's pro-immigrant policy.

In the speech, Reagan underlined that if a person goes to live in Germany, Turkey or Japan, he would not become a German, a Turk or a Japanese, respectively. However, that same person would be considered an American if he went to live in the US because of the country’s welcoming attitude towards immigrants.

“Anyone from any corner of the Earth can come to live in America and become an American,” the former President stressed.
"The internet rediscovering the based Reagan pro-immigration speech," Alexis Ohanian wrote responding to the video. "Wait till they learn about his amnesty program," Ohanian wrote.

Notably, Reagan represented the Republican Party, now headed by Trump. In 1986, he signed a law that granted amnesty to 2.9 million undocumented immigrants.

On the contrary, anti-immigration sentiment has been at the crux of Trump's pre-poll campaigning, and he has vowed "mass deportations" once he is sworn in next month.

However, Tesla CEO Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy, key Trump aides, have expressed support for expanding the H-1B visa program, which paves the way for the US to import skilled immigrants such as tech workers from India.

A large portion of Trump's supporters expressed anger against Musk regarding his pro-legal immigration stance and pushed back against him on his platform. Musk, however, has doubled down on his stance, calling for the removal of "racists" from the Republican Party's platform.

Trump's appointment of India-born Sriram Krishnan as his artificial intelligence (AI) adviser, has also sparked anger in his base, as Krishnan has called for removing country caps for green cards.

This is not the first time that Alexis Ohanian, who is known for his support of philanthropic causes, has weighed in on the H-1B debate. Serena Williams' husband has slammed vitriol towards Indians on X, saying:

"Racism is a hell of a drug."

Notably, India dominates H-1B applications for top-paid roles, with over 78% of applicants earning above $1 million annually in the past four years. Apart from his political opinions, Ohanian is also known for his support of women's sports.

The entrepreneur has invested in several such initiatives such as majority stakes in Angel City Football Club and his own track and field league called Athlos. Besides, he has also made major investments in the Virginia Women's Basketball team.
