Serena Williams may have hung her racquet, but the tennis legend isn’t letting that stop her fans from getting their hands on her beautifully curated Nike designs.
The American tennis star, who launched the Serena Williams Design Crew (SWDC) in 2019 with the aim of giving the spotlight to innovative designers from minority groups, recently unveiled its latest spring collection.
“Every someone starts somewhere. Our 2023 Serena Williams Design Crew Collection is back. Made for the dreamers, by the dreamers with a vision for future of fashion. Shop the newest collection, available now,” Serena wrote, showcasing the collection with a unique design approach.
Williams also gave her fans a tour of her stunning closet, declaring that the new SWDC collection was the most exciting addition to her closet. She also revealed that the jacket fit, paired with biker shorts, was her favorite look from the entire collection.
“My most exciting part is this new SWDC collection,” she said, adding, “this is my favorite piece in the collection, obviously cause I’m wearing it now. I love the colors on it. I love the biking shorts.”
Giving a brief insight into the concept and mission of the SWDC, the 23-time Grand Slam champion conveyed that she came up with the idea after noticing a lack of people of color in the design field.
“The SWDC is a really cool concept. What I liked is, when I saw a design, I saw a lot of people that didn’t really look like me, you know?” Williams revealed, “‘I wanted to push Nike - and credit to Nike for jumping on this – I wanted to push them to get designers and people that didn’t come from average “designer” places.”

In a separate post, the 41-year-old also credited the designers behind the collection - Shade Pratt, Daniela Triana, Chantel Sanchez, and Kechantra Ward – for coming up with “fresh new takes from their own cultural lens.”
Nike similarly shared a post dedicated to Serena Williams’ collection and her efforts to bring people of color to the forefront.
“In a league of their own. Sometimes you have to be what you want to see in the world. Introducing the 2023 Serena Williams Design Crew Collection, showcasing the young BIPOC creatives chosen to reflect Serena’s vision of a more inclusive design industry,” Nike wrote.
