Emma Raducanu was forced to withdraw from the inaugural ATX Open in Austin after a tonsilitis diagnosis. Following the announcement of her withdrawal, she shared some memories of a night out that surprised tennis fans.

In a statement, Raducanu thanked the tournament organizers for their hospitality and announced that she would be unable to compete in the tournament due to tonsilitis.

"I’m sorry to have to withdraw from the ATX Open. I am currently suffering from tonsillitis and am unable to compete this week. Thank you to the tournament for the great hospitality here in Austin," Raducanu said.

She expressed disappointment at having to pull out of the tournament and stated that she was recovering well.

"Sad to be missing Austin but on the mend," the Brit wrote on her Instagram story

Raducanu shared another update on social media which showed her enjoying a night out with hairstylist Patrick Wilson and makeup artist Naoko Sofia Patrizia Scintu.

Raducanu garnered a lot of sympathy and support from fans after the news of her illness, especially since the ATX Open was to be her first tournament back on the WTA tour after losing to Coco Gauff at the 2023 Australian Open. However, fans were taken aback by the 20-year-old posting pictures from a night out right after withdrawing from a tournament citing illness.

While the pictures turned out to be behind-the-scenes shots from her December 2022 shoot for Grazia magazine, fans felt that she should have held off from sharing the pictures for a while. One fan wrote that Raducanu should have kept a low profile after pulling out as the spotlight was on her at the time.

"She’s so unserious for posting this after withdrawing like girl keep a low profile," a fan said.

Another fan pointed out the confusing discrepancy between Raducanu's first post about her disappointment at her withdrawal from the tournament and her second post about a social event.

"God, first of stories about how she's sad about withdrawing from Austin and then this. I know she had to post this but it might be more soft," a tweet read.

In a conversation on The Craig Shapiro Tennis podcast, Ramme Raducanu's former coach Dmitry Tursunov commented on her work ethic and stated that he believes she will eventually figure things out in her tennis career due to her intelligence and love for the sport.

"I mean, with me, she [Emma Raducanu] was [a hard worker]. Sooner or later, she's just gonna sort it out," he said."She's too smart of a person not to sort out you know. She loves tennis too much not to figure it out soon.

He acknowledged that the journey may be challenging but believes that the Brit is willing to face the difficulties that may arise along the way.

"It's just a question of how long it's gonna take her and how difficult the road is going to be," he added" "But, I think she's the person who is willing to go a bumpy road," he added.

Emma Raducanu's performance in the 2023 season has been disappointing as she was eliminated in the second round of both the ASB Classic and the Australian Open, with defeats to Viktoria Kuzmova and Coco Gauff, respectively prior to her withdrawal from the ATX Open.
