Simona Halep has expressed her gratitude towards coach Patrick Mouratoglou for his latest statements of support as she faces a second charge in her doping case.
On Friday, May 19, the ITIA hit Simona Halep with a second charge in addition to her failed doping test results from October 2022. The latest breach suggests irregularities in the former World No. 1’s Athlete Biological Passport (ABP).
Simona Halep, who has denied partaking in any illegal means to enhance her performance ever since the original revelation, revealed that she felt “helpless” due to the latest accusations and the resulting harassment.
Halep received immense support from the public as well as from the tennis world. Her coach Patrick Mouratoglou rallied behind her and expressed his complete support in her fight for justice.
“Since the day the ITIA has charged her, I have been and will continue to be next to her every single day to support her in the fight for the truth,” he wrote in a dedicated post.
The two-time Grand Slam champion was overwhelmed by the backing and thanked Mouratoglou for staying by her side amidst adversity.
“Thank you deeply Patrick Mouratoglou for being the one who gave me permanent help and support. We will fight for the truth until the end!” she wrote.
"This statement is totally wrong and a biased interpretation" – Patrick Mouratoglou on the latest charges imposed on Simona Halep
The ITIA’s latest charges came just weeks after Simona Halep publicly called out the governing bodies for an “unfair” delay in her proceedings.
Patrick Mouratoglou, who previously coached Serena Williams, teamed up with Halep in April 2022. He vouched for the Romanian’s innocence based on his positive experience in working with her.
“I discovered in Simona a very rare person. She is kind, she is sweet, she feels no aggressiveness and no jealously towards anybody,” he wrote in his latest post.
“She has devoted all her life to tennis. It is her childhood passion. It is an evidence that she has received the best education filled with extremely strong values that she keeps inside herself.
“Her honesty and righteousness is undoubtably unwavering. I know there in NO WAY she would have EVER done anything that would have been illegal,” he added.
The French coach, who is currently coaching Holger Rune while Halep remains absent from tour, blasted the ITIA for mishandling the former World No. 1’s case.
“I am extremely shocked by the way this case has been conducted. They clearly try to prove her guilty even though she has been able to show multiple evidence of her innocence,” he stated.
While the ITIA chose to keep the details of the recent development under wraps, Mouratoglou publicly declared that the charges were imposed based on 'biased interpretation' and suspicion.
“The ITIA hasn’t found any illegal substance in her blood but just states that her blood parameters are ‘suspicious.’ Well renowned experts who have checked on them, have established that this statement is totally wrong and a biased interpretation and that her blood parameters are perfectly normal,” he revealed.
In addition to Mouratoglou, Simona Halep received the support of significant figures from the tennis world such as Chris Evert, Boris Becker, Ashleigh Barty as well as her previous coach Darren Cahill.
