Coco Gauff celebrated her 'best friend' Jamilah Snells' 22nd birthday on Thursday, August 29. Gauff, who is currently defending her title at the 2024 US Open, shared photos of memories with her friend Snells from over the years.

The 20-year-old took to her Instagram stories to share several images of herself with Snells while captioning them with heartwarming wishes. In one of the uploads, she added four images of them from over the years and wrote:

"Too many more memories and good times! thank you for being the best friend a girl could ask for!! Happy 22nd... I love you!!"

Snells is also a tennis player representing the University of Louisville. She also plays on the professional circuit and last played a main draw at the ITF event W15 Santo Domingo.

Meanwhile, Gauff is playing at the US Open in New York. She is defending her title and has advanced to the third round.

Coco Gauff's North American hardcourt swing has been underwhelming. Following her Paris Olympics outing, she first participated in the Canadian Open and faced a third-round exit at the hands of 14th seed Diana Shnaider. Next, at the Cincinnati Open, Yulia Putintseva ousted Gauff in the second round.

At the 2024 US Open, however, Gauff has impressed in the first two rounds. She defeated Varvara Gracheva in the first round with an almost flawless performance 6-2, 6-0. Next, she defeated Tatjana Maria 6-4, 6-0 to set up a third-round clash against Elina Svitolina.

During her post-match press conference, the third seed was asked about her third-round opponent and she said she would need her 'best tennis' to advance.

"She's obviously a difficult opponent. She's a veteran player. I played her earlier in Auckland and that was a tough match and I know I'll have to bring my best tennis to win," Coco Gauff said.

This will be the third encounter on tour for the pair of Gauff and Svitolina. Their head-to-head is tied at 1-1 with the American prevailing in their latest encounter at the ASB Classic in Auckland 6-7(4), 6-3, 6-3.

The winner between Gauff and Svitolina will take on either 13th seed Emma Navarro or 19th Marta Kostyuk.
