Fans had mixed reactions to Carlos Alcaraz's comments on the recent developments in Jannik Sinner's doping controversy. Alcaraz expressed empathy for his fellow player and some fans appreciated his stance, while others felt it was unnecessary for him to address the situation at all.

Sinner tested positive for Clostebol, a performance-enhancing drug, earlier this year. The results were made public before the 2024 US Open and the ITIA cleared the Italian of any negligence. Sinner has since maintained his innocence in several interviews.

However, in a surprising twist, WADA appealed the ITIA's decision, seeking a two-year ban for the World No. 1. Despite the looming uncertainty, Sinner, fresh off his US Open victory, continues to compete at the 2024 China Open.

Also competing in Beijing is Carlos Alcaraz. The Spaniard was asked about Sinner's situation during his press conference after defeating Tallon Griekspoor 6-1, 6-2. The 21-year-old defended Sinner's form during this "difficult point" in his career.

"Probably, as he said before New York, the people started to look at him in different way. I don't know how it can be. But for sure I understand the position. I feel him... I hope that this thing, this term will be aside soon and he's able to stay focused on what he loves, and that is playing tennis, trying to keep going," Alcaraz said.

The Spaniard's comments were posted on X and some fans felt Alcaraz was diplomatic in his approach.

"He said a lot but nothing at all...very diplomatic very demure," one fan wrote.
"He is basically giving you nothing," another fan wrote.

One fan believed that the Spaniard should not have been asked such a question. They wrote:

"They need to stop asking him things that has got nothing to do with him."

Here are some more fan reactions to Alcaraz's comments about Sinner's doping controversy.

"What a sweetheart Carlos Alcaraz is. Does Sinner deserve this graciousness?" one fan asked.
"Shut up carlitos 😭 it's none of your business! Just focus on yourself & your game," another fan wrote.
"I hope the Carlos fans can adopt his perspective instead of being so insecure and pathetic," yet another fan wrote.

"Not really good sign for tennis in general" - Carlos Alcaraz on Jannik Sinner's doping case verdict being appealed by WADA

Carlos Alcaraz believes that Jannik Sinner's doping case verdict being appealed by WADA is not a good sign for tennis as a sport.

"Well, yeah, as you said, it's really sensitive things to Jannik and tennis in general. I mean, after everything was decide, let's say, before Cincinnati, that the ITIA said that Jannik Sinner saying he didn't do anything wrong, and now came again, it is open again," Alcaraz said, speaking to the press at the China Open.
"I think for tennis is not really good, not really good sign for tennis in general," he added.

Alcaraz also acknowledged that he was unsure about the details, expressing surprise when he saw news of the case being reopened. He also expressed uncertainty about the future.

Currently, however, Alcaraz and Sinner are competing at the China Open in Beijing and are through to the quarterfinals. Second-seed Alcaraz will take on seventh-seed Karen Khachanov while top-seed Sinner will face Jiri Lehecka.
