Sumit Nagal withdraws from India's Davis Cup clash against Sweden owing to injury

In a major blow to the Indian team, rising tennis star Sumit Nagal will not compete in his upcoming match at the Davis Cup. India will face Sweden in their World Group 1 match to be held on 14-15 September. The tie is scheduled to be played at The Royal Tennis Hall, in Stockholm, Sweden.

Nagal will miss out on the clash due to a back injury. He posted on X to inform his fans of the development. As per the post, Nagal has been dealing with back pain for some time now and has been advised by doctors "to rest for the next two weeks".

Notably, the Haryana-born player was also forced to withdraw from the US Open 2024 doubles event, owing to the same issue. In his post, Nagal expressed his support for the Indian team.

Though India will miss Nagal in Sweden, they will continue to have faith in their team. Ramkumar Ramanathan, Siddharth Vishwakarma, Niki Poonacha and N Sriram Balaji will represent the Indian team, led by their captain, Rohit Rajpal.


Sumit Nagal continues to face setbacks after a disappointing US Open 2024 campaign

Sumit Nagal would want to come out of this difficult phase of his career, much stronger. Before his recent injury concern, Nagal faced disappointment at the US Open 2024.

Being the only Indian player in the singles category, Nagal was expected to do well at the prestigious event. However, he lost his first-round clash to Tallon Griekspoor of the Netherlands on 27 August in New York.

Nagal lost the tie in three straight sets, with the scoreline reading, 1-6, 3-6, 6-7(6). Though he put in a much more spirited effort in the third set, it eventually ended up being a losing cause.

The No.1 ranked Indian player was supposed to partner with Yoshihito Nishioka of Japan in the mixed doubles. However, he opted out of the event due to his back trouble.
