Fritz returned home after a disappointing campaign in Melbourne. He began 2025 with strong performances, helping lead the USA to victory at the United Cup alongside MVP Coco Gauff.

The World No. 4 was in excellent form heading into Melbourne, securing straight-set wins in his first two matches. However, he was outclassed by Gael Monfils, who pulled off an unexpected upset in the third round.

Taylor Fritz got the better of Jenson Brooksby 6-2, 6-0, 6-3 in the first round of the 2025 Australian Open. The prize money for advancing into the second round was AUD 132,000 (approximately $82,000).

Following his second-round triumph over Cristian Garin, a 6-1, 6-1, 6-0 rout, Fritz announced that he was donating his first-round prize money to the victims of the Los Angeles wildfire.

"I just want everyone to obviously stay safe, it's just insane what has happened," Taylor Fritz said during his on-court interview. "I'm going to be donating my first-round prize money to LA wildfire relief funds. It's really the least I can do."
"Southern California is my home and LA was my home for a long time. I'm just doing what I can possibly do to help and I would encourage anyone else who can donate to help because a lot of people really need it," he added.

Later, in the press conference, Fritz shared that Southern California, particularly Los Angeles, has been his home for a long time. While most of his family wasn't directly affected, he mentioned that some of his friends were impacted, and his brother's childhood home was destroyed in the fires although the family no longer lives there.

The World No. 4's Australian Open campaign ended days later at the hands of Gael Monfils. The Frenchman was clinical in his 3-6, 7-5, 7-6, 6-4 win.
