Iga Swiatek sealed her spot in the semifinals of the ongoing Australian Open after defeating Emma Navarro 6-1, 6-2 on Tuesday, January 22. Despite the Pole's clear dominance during the match, tennis insider Jose Morgado gave his take on a controversial moment that took place during the match.

During the quarterfinal, Morgano took to X (formerly Twitter) to share an image of the point he believed was awarded unfairly to Swiatek. Claiming that this portrayed the standards of the game in a poor light, he wrote:

"Swiatek was awarded this point. QF of a Slam. Terrible look for tennis"

This 'doubtful' point was awarded when the score was 2-2 in the second set of the match. As Iga Swiatek chased the drop shot by Navarro, the ball was seen bouncing twice on the court before she was able to return it to Navarro.

With replays confirming the contentious call, the umpires faced severe criticism from tennis fans online, with no further video referrals made to review the point.

A clip of the controversial 'double bounce shot' can be seen below:

Irrespective of this controversial moment, Swiatek's encounter against the eighth-seeded Emma Navarro was a relatively quick affair, with the Pole clinching a straight-set win in an hour and a half.

Iga Swiatek managed to move to her second semifinal at the Australian Open following her comfortable win against Emma Navarro on Wednesday. The World No. 2 eyes her sixth Grand Slam singles title after beating Katerina Siniakova, Rebecca Sramkova, Emma Raducanu, and Eva Lys in the first four rounds of the 2025 Australian Open.

The 23-year-old endured a difficult 2024 campaign as she tested positive for a drug banned by WADA (World Anti-Doping Association) in August of that year. This was followed by her accepting a month-long suspension order in September.

With WADA choosing not to appeal ITIA's decision in her doping case, Iga Swiatek looks to shift her focus on clinching her maiden Australian Open title. She is yet to drop a set at the Major this year and will take on Madison Keys in the semifinal.

The two have faced each other on five occasions before this with Swiatek leading their head-to-head 4-1. They will be seen in action on Thursday, January 23 at the center court, as the American looks to avenge her 2024 Italian Open loss.
