Martina Navratilova reacted to the ongoing federal investigation of Elon Musk over the billionaire's suspected violations of security clearance rules. Navratilova, a staunch critic of Musk, urged the U.S. military to test Musk for the potential use of illicit drugs.
On Wednesday, December 18, reports emerged about Musk's possible failure to disclose his alleged use of illegal drugs and maintaining communication with Russia since 2022. The world's richest man may find himself in a tricky situation if the federal investigation discovers that the allegations are true. This is due to Musk himself having a top-secret security clearance and having access to government-classified information.
Former World No. 1 and 18-time singles Grand Slam champion Martina Navratilova caught wind of the development and reacted to it on X (formerly Twitter). The Czech-American tennis legend wrote:
"What a surprise. Test his a**!"
Martina Navratilova also took a swipe at the Republicans over the news. Musk played a key role in Donald Trump's victory in the 2024 US presidential elections, injecting millions into the Republicans' successful campaign. He was also physically present at several significant Republican gatherings, where he delivered speeches to gather support for Trump.
"Republicans want people on welfare to take a drug test but not the same for people in positions of massive power?" Navratilova asked.
Earlier this year, Navratilova sarcastically opined that buying Twitter was Musk's best investment. The former World No. 1 voiced her opinion as a reaction to a prominent author claiming that his X account may have been shadow-banned.
Martina Navratilova aired "rigged the system" take over Elon Musk's social media platform possibly shadow-banning author
In November 2024, bestselling author Craig Unger suggested that his X account was potentially under a shadow ban. Unger, a critic of the Republicans similar to Martina Navratilova, backed up his suggestion with statistics that indicated drastically decreased engagement with his posts on the social media platform that Elon Musk took over in 2022.
Navratilova reacted to Unger's post, claiming that Musk's takeover of Twitter aided the billionaire in rigging the system.
"Elon has rigged the system in a big way. Buying twitter was his best investment ever," Navratilova wrote.
Since Musk's Twitter takeover and rebranding as X, the microblogging social media platform has stirred controversy by seemingly encouraging hate speech and online abuse through reduced content moderation. However, Musk himself continues to project this approach as a way to maintain free speech.
A few days ago, Navratilova called Musk out over his "free speech" stance after a critic of the billionaire suggested that he is interfering with the reach of his critics on X.
