Tennis legend Chris Evert penned a heartfelt message to celebrate her eldest son, Alexander Mill, on his 33rd birthday on October 12. Evert’s connection with Alexander Mill stems from her second marriage to former downhill skier Andy Mill. The couple tied the knot in 1988, and during their marriage, they welcomed three sons: Alexander, Nicholas, and Colton.
Even though Chris Evert and Andy Mill parted ways in 2006, their shared commitment to their children has always been evident. Alexander, her oldest, has grown from a skateboarder into a CrossFit enthusiast and fitness coach.
In an Instagram post, Evert shared a series of photos chronicling her journey with Alexander over the years. In her heartfelt message, she expressed gratitude for his unwavering support over the last few years, calling him her “rock.”
"Happy 33rd Birthday to my amazing son Alex. Thank you for being my rock the last few years when I've needed you. Watching you grow into the kind and caring person you are today fills me with pride. Here's to many more years of love, happiness, and adventure! ❤️ Mom," Evert wrote.
Chris Evert on being smitten with her four-month-old son Alexander Mill back in 1992
Chris Evert once shared that she was filled with an overwhelming sense of love upon seeing her newborn son, Alexander Mill.
In a 1992 interview with the Los Angeles Times, just four months after Alexander’s birth, Evert spoke fondly of her deep admiration for him.
"You have this little person, this little life in your arms and [Alexander] he has these big blue eyes and you don’t know where in the world he got them and he just melts my heart. I never want to go anywhere without him. I’m his slave," Chris Evert said.
When asked how she felt about tennis during the later stages of her pregnancy, Evert acknowledged that watching fellow players succeed made her miss the game. Nonetheless, those thoughts vanished instantly when she first held her baby.
"I was lying in bed, watching Jimmy [Connors] do great in the Open, watching Martina do great, and it gave me a lot of incentive to play again. I was thinking about playing team tennis. I was thinking about lining up some exhibitions," Evert said.
"Then, I had Alex. I held the baby in the hospital and after the first minute, all those feelings were gone," she added.
Alexander Mill has been a constant source of support for his mother during her fight against cancer. In December 2023, Evert disclosed that her cancer had returned, just months after she had initially shared the news of being cancer-free.
The former World No. 1 went through surgery and chemotherapy before being declared cancer-free again in June of this year. Throughout her recovery, Alexander frequently visited her and even participated in tennis sessions to lift her spirits.
