American ex-pro Sam Querrey recently spoke negatively about the engagement levels of the 2025 Australian Open. The 37-year-old said the Grand Slam tournament, despite having top-ranked tennis stars like Novak Djokovic, Carlos Alcaraz, Jannik Sinner, and others, failed to provide fans with the levels of excitement they had anticipated.

According to official figures, 1.2 million viewers attended the Australian Open this year. This surpassed last year’s total of 1,110,657 ticketed visitors. However, the growth rate was slightly lower than the notable increase witnessed in the previous editions.

Sam Querrey was left disappointed with the overall standard in the men's circuit at the 2025 Australian Open. In an episode on the "Nothing Major Podcast" following Jannik Sinner's commanding win over Alexander Zverev, the former American tennis star talked about how the top-ranked ATP pros failed to add spice to the event.

"Honestly the entire men's tournament kind of s**ked this year. There really wasn't like a great match in my opinion! Alcaraz, Djokovic was fun but like I feel like you didn't have that. When we talk about this tournament in six months like oh what match do you remember you're not going to remember any of them Sinner separated himself on hard court from the rest of the field like a bummer from a fans perspective almost," he said (16:36 onwards).

With a stunning victory over Zverev, Jannik Sinner secured his second Australian Open title and third Major overall. Despite the high viewership on broadcasting networks and strong offline attendance, Querrey seems to think the tournament could do better.

Jannik Sinner recently announced that he will not be present in Rotterdam to defend his title. After a major physical grind at the 2025 Australian Open, the Italian said he will prioritize his health and keep himself out of the event starting Saturday, February 1.

"After consulting with my team we had to take the difficult decision to withdraw from the ABN AMRO Open. My body needs time to rest after the long run in Australia. I have great memories from winning the title in front of amazing crowds at Rotterdam Ahoy last year and hope to be back there soon," Sinner said, as released by the tournament organizers.

Last year, Jannik Sinner took down Alex De Minaur to bag the title in Rotterdam. Now that he has decided to get some rest, fans are eagerly waiting to know his forthcoming schedule.
