Eugenie Bouchard graced the ESPYs after-party and met Serena Williams. The duo posed for a picture together to commemorate the night.
The EPSPs (Excellence in Sports Performance Yearly) Awards were held on July 12, with Williams as the host. She gave a memorable performance, as she hilariously serenaded Maria Sharapova with a song, called out Harrison Butker over his controversial commencement speech at Benedictine College, and pulled LeBron James' leg over LA Lakers drafting his son Bronny into the team.
Serena Williams was joined by a fellow tennis player, Eugenie Bouchard, at her after-party at Delilah in West Hollywood. The 2014 Wimbledon finalist later shared a picture with the American on Instagram.
"The Queen Herself," Bouchard captioned the post.
Williams stunned in a mint green dress and added a touch of sports to her look with a pair of white Nike Air Force 1 Shadow sneakers with blush pink piping. She completed the look with a diamond necklace. Meanwhile, Bouchard wore a sequenced black dress with heels and a golden bag.
Eugenie Bouchard: "I would get so much hate for doing anything other than tennis"
Eugenie Bouchard recently gave an interview to The Times and talked about how she would receive hate comments on social media whenever she ventured out of tennis, such as attending award functions and posing for magazine covers. She also felt that media engagements were normalized to a certain extent now.
“I would get so much hate for doing anything other than tennis. It was a burden I would bear on my shoulders and it was really hard. At least it’s more accepted now. Not that I was the only pioneer to do these things but I feel like I made it a little bit more normal,” Bouchard said.
The Canadian stated that things have changed drastically and off-field activities were now encouraged. She bemoaned 'being shoved into a box' early in her career when partaking in any activity besides tennis was frowned upon.
“It’s great that the world has changed over the past ten years and now not only is it acceptable to do off-court things, it’s actually encouraged. Back in the day, I felt like I was being shoved into a box, like you can’t do anything besides tennis. I was like, tennis has given me opportunities to explore the fashion world, TV and all these other things. Why would I say no? We’re talking about my life in its entirety here," Bouchard said.
Eugenie Bouchard is away from tennis, focusing on pickleball. Her last tennis appearance came at an ITF event earlier in May.
