Taylor Fritz's girlfriend and social media influencer Morgan Riddle recently took down the apparent jibe she made at Alexander Zverev, seemingly concerning previous domestic abuse allegations against him. Her action garnered a boatload of reactions from tennis fans online.
Fritz achieved an impressive victory over Alexander Zverev, despite the latter taking the first two sets 6-4, 7-6(7) during their fourth-round clash at Wimbledon 2024. The American mounted a strong comeback, winning the next three sets 6-4, 7-6(7), 6-3 to confirm his place in the quarterfinals of the tournament.
After Fritz's triumph, his girlfriend Morgan Riddle seemingly took a shot at Zverev for the recent domestic abuse allegations against him.
Zverev was involved in a court case over accusations by his ex-girlfriend Brenda Patea. The case was settled ultimately and Zverev paid €200,000 ($218k) without admitting guilt.
Riddle wrote in her two Instagram stories:
"Cheer loud ladies."
"When ur man wins 4 the girls."
The social media influencer deleted the story from her handle soon after. Journalist Jose Morgado later shared them on X, writing:
"Both Instagram Stories now deleted."
Many fans on X reacted to Morgan Riddle's actions, with some curious about the reason for the removal of her Instagram stories. One fan speculated that her boyfriend might have told her to remove them:
"I’m guessing Fritz had a word. These influencers are getting out of control."
"Why do I think Taylor told her to take it down," another fan echoed.
Here are a few more comments from the tennis fans online:
"Oops I guess justice-by-clout “4 the girls” has a very short shelf life," a fan weighed in.
"Better late than never, how much stupidity and superficiality above all...," one wrote.
"Awful to even post this if you ask me…," another chimed in.
Taylor Fritz set to take on Lorenzo Musetti in the quarterfinals at Wimbledon 2024
Taylor Fritz is showing impressive form at the prestigious London Major. The American defeated Christopher O'Connell, Arthur Rinderknech and Alejandro Tabilo before eliminating No. 4 seed Alexander Zverev from the tournament.
The American now faces an in-form Lorenzo Musetti, who started his Wimbledon campaign on the back of a run to the final at the Queen's Club Championships. The 22-year-old has maintained his form, advancing to his first Grand Slam quarterfinal at Wimbledon 2024.
Fritz has previously encountered Musetti three times on the ATP tour, leading their head-to-head 2-1. However, the World No. 25 convincingly won their last encounter, which took place at the ATP Masters 1000 event in Monte Carlo.
The winner of this quarterfinal clash will face either World No. 2 Novak Djokovic or Alex de Minaur in the semifinals.
