The winners of a lookalike contest for the popular tennis movie "Challengers" have sparked hilarious reactions from fans. The Zendaya-starrer was released earlier this year and was a smash hit.
The USA has been seeing a surge in the popularity of lookalike contests recently. Starting with a Timothee Chalamet lookalike contest, many lookalike contests featuring the likes of Glen Powell, Rachel Sennott, and Jungkook, followed.
A Challengers lookalike contest became the most recent addition to this trend. The Zendaya starring movie featured a love triangle and became popular among tennis fans, grossing about $100 million.
In a clip posted on X (formerly Twitter), the winners of the contest recreated the popular scene from the film where the two male leads Art, played by Mike Faist, and Patrick, played by Josh O' Connor, ate churros from each other person's hand.
Following this, fans reacted with references to some popular scenes from the film.
“They didn’t even make out? hang this shit up immediately. WHAT HAPPENED TO FUN?!” one fan joked.
Another fan said:
“No lust for each other in their eyes fraudulent election”
Another fan also replied on the same theme.
“Doesn't work if they won't look at each other!” the fan commented.
Here are some more fan reactions:
“U can tell patrick isn’t really into it…won’t even look at art !! lookalikes are also about vibes… don’t act all embarrassed now,” a fan said.
“Refusing to make eye contact one single time in this video #notmyartpatrick,” another fan added.
"There was an Art & Patrick lookalike contest and hilariously one of the winners was just walking by when the crowd forced him to compete," a fan added.
A Zendaya lookalike contest was held on November 20.
When Zendaya opened up about what attracted her to "Challengers"
Back in April this year ahead of the film's release, the cast of 'Challengers' were asked what attracted them to a tennis-centric film. Zendaya spoke about the sport as a metaphor for different situations in life.
She also mentioned the thrill of taking on the 'scary' challenge of learning the sport in a short amount of time which fueled a fire inside of her to take on the role of Tashi. She said,
"Tennis is often used as a metaphor for a lot of different things in life, in relationships, power. And I think also just the prospect of the idea of having to take on a massive challenge [...] tennis is not what we do for a living and it's not something like you can just pick up."
She added,
"So I think the idea of tackling something and [...] being a part of the tennis world and learning more about it was a pleasure. I think it was scary challenge if anything, but also stimulating...emotionally, physically."
Zendaya spoke in another interview about her preparations for her role as Tashi in Challengers. She said that she would watch anything related to the sport, including compilations, highlights, and interviews, and also shared that her Instagram feed was full of "stuff" related to the sport at one point.
