Martina Navratilova defended former US Presidents Barack Obama, George W. Bush and Bill Clintion while slamming Donald Trump's "oligarchy" cabinet. The tennis great's remarks came amid the president-elect's recent nomination of David Sacks.
Trump, who won the presidential election on November 5, has been nominating candidates for different roles in his second-term cabinet. The 78-year-old announced on Thursday that he was nominating Sacks, a podcaster and former PayPal chief operating officer, for the role of White House Artificial Intelligence and crypto czar.
The nomination received flak on social media. One user explained Sacks' ignorant views on immigration, to which, Navratilova stated that they will witness a small group of influential people controlling the government under Trump's term.
"We will have an Oligarchy cabinet if I ever saw one," Navratilova wrote on X.
Another user stated that the issue reflected the entirety of US politics, implicating the Bush, Obama, Clinton and Biden families in the same manner. Navratilova, however, countered the statement, asserting that they were "not billionaries" and "elected" to power unlike the Trump-led government.
"They were elected and are not billionaires. Unlike this trump cabinet. Try again with whataboutism:)," her post read.
Donald Trump's nomination of Sacks comes just days after picking his former aide Kash Patel as Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) director. Navratilova had expressed her disappointment then, calling it "unreal."
Apart from Sacks and Patel, Pam Bondi (Attorney General), Marco Rubio (Secretary of State), Pete Hegseth (Defence Secretary), and Robert F. Kennedy Jr. (Health and Human Services) are some of the other major nominations. For Trump to appoint his nominees to the cabinet, he needs majority of the vote in the US Senate.
Martina Navratilova blames Donald Trump for Joe Biden's reversed stance to pardon son Hunter
Martina Navratilova blamed Donald Trump for Joe Biden's reversed stance to pardon his son Hunter.
Hunter was hit with charges related to tax crimes and substance abuse. Biden, back in June, had promised abiding by the jury's decision on his son's case. However, the 82-year-old recently backtracked his words on the mattter.
Taking to X (formerly Twitter), a reporter released US senator Chris Coons' explanation of why Biden changed his stance. In his statement, Coons opined that the Trump-led government had a clear intention to target Hunter in the backdrop of the case.
Navratilova supported Coons' statement, as she reflected on how the circumstances "completely changed" in the summer.
"Exactly. The field of play completely changed this summer. Trump made it clear all bets were off," Martina Navratilova wrote on X.
Joe Biden's tenure as the 46th US president will come to an end after Trump assumes office for a second term on January 20, 2025.
