Bianca Andreescu booked her place in the fourth round of the Miami Open with a 6-4, 6-4 win over Sofia Kenin in the third round on Sunday (March 26).
Andreescu produced some very good tennis to register her third win over Kenin in four meetings between the two. The Canadian was also involved in a funny moment during the match when she mistakenly served on the wrong side of the court in the second set.
This was followed by an equally funny reaction from the 23-year-old on her error which led to her only double fault of the match.
The WTA shared a video of the incident on Twitter, with the caption reading:
"We all have been there Bibi. Love your reaction."
Andreescu had a hilarious response to the post, joking that the ball caught the baseline, thus implying it was in.
"I think that caught the line tbh," the Canadian tweeted.
Andreescu also responded to the WTA's video of the incident on Instagram, stating:
"Waaaait this is actually so funny hahahaha."
"I definitely feel like I deserve to be here now" - Bianca Andreescu on reaching Miami Open 2023 fourth round
Bianca Andreescu is through to the fourth round of the Miami Open in her first appearance in the tournament since 2021, when she finished as the runner-up after an ankle injury forced her to retire in the final against Ashleigh Barty.
In her on-court interview after defeating Sofia Kenin, Andreescu stated that she did not feel that she deserved to go as far as she did in Miami in 2021. This year, however, she has played better in the tournament and opined that she deserved to be in the fourth round.
“Last time I played here in 2021, I did not enjoy myself. I did not feel that I deserved to be in that final. But this year, I feel like a totally different person & I definitely feel like I deserve to be here right now," Andreescu said.
After defeating Kenin, Andreescu will next take on 18th seed Ekaterina Alexandrova in the fourth round. The Russian reached the Round of 16 after ousting ninth seed Belinda Bencic 7-6(8), 6-3.
Andreescu and Alexandrova will lock horns for the very first time and the winner of the match will take on either Petra Kvitova or Varvara Gracheva in the quarterfinals.
