20th seed Frances Tiafoe booked his place in the fourth round of the US Open after edging out 13th seed Ben Shelton 4-6, 7-5, 6-7(5), 6-4, 6-3. The American reached the second week at the New York Major for the fifth consecutive year.

With this latest victory, Tiafoe has improved his head-to-head record against Shelton to 1-2. After securing the hard-fought victory, the 26-year-old pointed to the court in front of an enthusiastic New York crowd after his handshake with Shelton, mouthing the words:

"This is my f**king house, This is my f**king house."

The camera then captured an emotional moment as it panned to his girlfriend, Ayan Broomfield, who was in tears of joy, celebrating Tiafoe’s triumph.

Frances Tiafoe’s resurgence in form can be attributed to his recent partnership with David Witt, the former coach of Venus Williams and Jessica Pegula. Witt’s guidance has played a crucial role in helping Tiafoe overcome a lackluster season and regain his competitive edge.

After defeating Ben Shelton, Frances Tiafoe will take on 28th seed Alexei Popyrin in the fourth round of the US Open. The Aussie reached the second week of a Grand Slam for the first time in his career by scripting a massive upset. He beat four-time champion Novak Djokovic 6-4, 6-4, 2-6, 6-4 .

Tiafoe and Popyrin will lock horns for the very first time and if the American wins, he will book his place in the US Open quarterfinals for the third consecutive season. A victory for the Aussie will see him reach his maiden Grand Slam quarterfinal.

Frances Tiafoe has won 27 out of 46 matches so far this season, with his best performance coming at the Cincinnati Open. The American beat the likes of Alejandro Davidovich Fokina, Lorenzo Musetti, Hubert Hurkacz and Holger Rune to reach his maiden Masters 1000 final, where he lost to World No. 1 Jannik Sinner in straight sets.

The American also reached the semifinals of the Citi Open while reaching the final of U.S. Men's Clay Court Championships in Houston. The US Open is the only Grand Slam this year where Tiafoe has reached the second week, having endured a third-round exit at Wimbledon and second-round eliminations at the Australian Open and French Open.
