A trailer for the documentary "Unbreakable", detailing Australian tennis star Jelena Dokic's journey from escaping war to enduring physical and mental abuse from her father-coach, has been released. Fans reacted with a mix of shock and admiration for her resilience.

Once a rising tennis star, Dokic endured a life filled with challenges off the court. Born in then-Yugoslavia in 1983, her family fled to Australia in 1994 due to the instability of the breakup of Yugoslavia.

Under the guidance of her father and coach, Damir Dokic, Jelena made a name for herself in tennis, capturing the US Open girls' title and dominating the junior circuit.

However, behind the scenes, Jelena Dokic suffered physical and emotional abuse from her father, which she detailed in her 2017 book, "Unbreakable". She revealed that her father’s beatings left her with bruises and lasting scars.

Now working in tennis media, Dokic’s story of resilience has been brought to light through a documentary titled Unbreakable, inspired by her book. A trailer for the documentary was recently shared on X, sparking emotional reactions from fans who expressed shock and admiration for her courage.

"Still in shock that she went through all of this, she deserves the world [heart emoji] I can’t wait to watch!" one fan wrote.
"I remember watching her and this is so heartbreaking! ugh there was so much we didn’t know at the time," another fan wrote.
"Omg this Jelena Dokic doc looks incredible. Hate that her father was such an abusive d**kwad," a third fan wrote.

Here are some more fan reactions to Dokic's documentary trailer.

"Teared up just watching the trailer," one fan wrote.
"I’ve tried many times and I couldn’t finish her book “Unbreakable” . Its giving me nightmares," another fan wrote.
"Just read the autobiography. Jelena, is Unbreakable," yet another fan wrote.

After speaking at a Domestic and Family Violence event, Jelena Dokic decided to post pictures of the time she faced physical abuse from her father. After she lost a match, she was beaten and kicked with sharp shoes on her shins. The images she uploaded on Instagram showed the bruises she had while she was playing.

In the caption, Dokic wrote:

"Swollen, bruised and bleeding shins from being beaten and kicked all night with sharp shoes right into my shins for losing a match. These images were taken more than 2 weeks later and I was still heavily bruised. I was 17 years old. To this day I still have sensitive and bumpy shins from this beating. From every wound there is a scar and these are mine."

Dokic frequently uses her platform to raise awareness about domestic abuse. During the 2024 Australian Open, she requested signed towels from the eventual champion Aryna Sabalenka. The towels were later auctioned off, with proceeds going to support victims of domestic abuse.
