"This could have been Katerina Siniakova & Tomas Machac" - Daria Saville hilariously reacts to Chinese badminton duo getting engaged at Paris Olympics

Daria Saville made a hilarious comparison between the former tennis couple Katerina Siniakova and Tomas Machac and the Chinese badminton players who got engaged at the Paris 2024 Olympics. Siniakova and Machac won the gold medal in mixed doubles.

Saville's Olympics campaign ended in the first round as she and her partner Ellen Perez lost to No. 1 seeds Jessica Pegula and Coco Gauff.

Recently, she joked about the Chinese shuttlers and couple Huang Ya Qiong and Liu Yuchen. Ya Qiong won the gold medal in mixed doubles while partnering with Zheng Si Wei. The duo defeated the South Korean pair to clinch the medal on August 2.

After the match, Ya Qiong's boyfriend and fellow badminton player Liu Yuchen went down on one knee as he popped the question. Ya Qiong was in disbelief before she said yes.

Daria Saville joked that this could have been Siniakova and Machac.

"Omg this could have been Kat and Tomas lol :D," Saville joked.

The Czech couple had been dating since 2021 but ahead of the Olympics, the rumor of their alleged breakup was doing the rounds on social media. Siniakova confirmed their breakup to the Czech outlet blesk.cz. The duo remained tight-lipped about their relationship during the post-match interview after winning the gold medal.

Siniakova quipped that the duo enjoys it when the media is confused about their relationship status.

“That’s our personal life, so you don’t need to know that. We like when you are confused," Katerina Siniakova said with a smile.

While Machac joked that it was a 'top secret'.

“This is top secret," Machac added.

Katerina Siniakova and Tomas Machac won the gold medal at the Paris Olympics, defeating the Chinese pairing of Wang Xinyu and Zhang Zhizhen. The Czech won the first set 6-2 while the Chinese leveled the match by edging in the second set 7-5. The Czech duo clinched the match after beating them 10-8 in the match tie-break.

Siniakova and Machac began their campaign against the No. 1 seeds Laura Siegemund and Alexander Zverev, defeating them 6-4, 7-5 before seeing off Japanese Ena Shibahara and Kei Nishikori in the quarterfinal 7-5, 6-2. They then defeated the Canadians Gabriela Dabrowski and Felix Auger-Aliassime in the semifinals 6-3, 6-3 to set up a final against the Chinese.

This is Katerina Siniakova's second medal at the Olympics, as she won the women's doubles gold with Barbora Krejcikova at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
