Iga Swiatek breaking down in tears after her heartbreaking defeat to Zheng Qinwen in the semifinals of the 2024 Paris Olympics has left fans empathizing with the Pole. The top seed was ousted by the Chinese in straight sets.
Swiatek was widely considered a favorite at the Olympics being held at Roland Garros because of her stupendous results at the French Open. The Pole is a three-time defending champion and was on a 25-match winning streak coming into the semifinals.
Alhough she was in sublime form at the prestigious event, the World No. 1 was stunned by China's Zheng Qinwen 6-2, 7-5.
A clip on X was posted later that showed Iga Swiatek breaking down in tears while giving an interview. Her voice cracked while speaking and after taking a breather, she tried to continue talking but couldn't and walked away.
Fans felt bad for the young Pole and reacted to the clip. A fan called it unhealthy that the World No.1 was breaking down regardless of the situation.
“Can they get her a sports psychologist, this unhealthy, she cries when she is challenged, cries when losing and winning.”
Another fan said that they felt sad for Iga Swiatek and could only imagine what she was going through.

Iga Swiatek will play the loser of the match between Donna Vekic and Anna Schmiedlova for the bronze medal at the 2024 Paris Olympics
Though she suffered a heartbreaking defeat in the semifinals, Iga Swiatek's quest for a medal is far from over. The Pole will have an opportunity to compete for the bronze medal against the loser of the other semifinal match between Croatia's Donna Vekic and Slovakia's Anna Schmiedlova.
Swiatek has never faced Schmiedlova in her career whereas the Pole boasts a 4-0 head-to-head lead against Vekic.
Meanwhile, the winner of the match between Vekic and Schmiedlova will meet Zheng Qinwen in the gold-medal clash.
