Emma Raducanu crashed out of the 2024 US Open women's singles event from the first round on Tuesday, August 27. Sofia Kenin defeated her in three sets to advance to the second round of the New York Major.

Kenin broke Raducanu thrice in the first set before the latter struck back to force the third. The American stood tough in the decider and claimed a 6-1, 3-6, 6-4 with a total of five break-point conversions, six aces, and 45 winners.

The loss meant Emma Raducanu's title drought since winning the New York Major in 2021 extended further.

Several tennis fans reacted to the 21-year-old's defeat, with one stating that her Grand Slam win in 2021 was "accidental".

"It's time to move on from Raducanu, she's an irrelevant player who accidentally won a Slam 3 years ago," the fan wrote.

Another fan went as far as claiming the 21-year-old won't win another Major.

"Raducanu is a one hit wonder. She'll never win a Slam again," the fan stated.

Here are a few more reactions from X:

"I think we can confirm that taking a break before a Slam is the worst idea the players have come up with," a fan commented.
"She skipped the Olympics to prepare for this part of the season only to barely play and then this. Yes, good call," a fan wrote.
"She does was Nick Kyrgios did. “If I had prepared properly I would have won.. but I didn’t prepare and that’s the only reason why I didn’t win”. So they have an excuse for their loss bc their ego can’t handle losing while being prepared," a fan wrote.
"Maybe RaducaNO should start playing qualies. Pathetic," a fan remarked.

Andy Roddick questioned Emma Raducanu's schedule leading up to 2024 US Open

Andy Roddick had questioned Emma Raducanu's scheduling before the 2024 US Open. He found the Brit's decision to skip tournaments during the North American hardcourt swing wrong, arguing that four-time Grand Slam champion Naomi Osaka tried herself in the qualifiers of the Cincinnati Open.

"Raducanu… I loved what she was building through Washington and then she decided she wasn’t going to play qualifiers in any of the tournaments, which is even stranger when you see someone like Naomi Osaka put pride on the side and go play qualifiers in Cincinnati," he said in an episode of the Served with Andy Roddick podcast (on 19:13).

Emma Raducanu had notably gained momentum with fourth-round and quarterfinal finishes at Wimbledon and Citi Open, respectively. She, however, didn't play competitive tennis after the Washington event before the US Open.

Notably, the Brit hasn't won a match in Flushing Meadows since lifting the trophy in 2021 as she exited the 2022 tournament in the first round and skipped the event in 2023 nursing injuries.

After defeating Emma Raducanu, Sofia Kenin will next take on sixth seed Jessica Pegula, with the winner facing either 31st seed Katie Boulter or Jessica Bouzas Maneiro in the third round.
