The United States Tennis Association has announced a monumental increase in the prize money purse for the 2024 US Open. Tennis' biggest stars will compete for a total prize of $75 million, the largest in the sport's history.

The US Open has been seeing a gradual increase in total prize money for many years now, and this year's $75 million purse for the singles competition represents a 15% increase from last year's $65 million. At the 2024 US Open, the singles winners will be awarded $3.6 million, up from $3 million in 2023, with the runners-up earning $1.8 million.

All rounds will see an increase in prize money in New York, with $1,000,000 for the semifinalists, $530,000 for the quarterfinalists, $325,000 for the fourth round, $215,000 for the third round, $140,000 for the second round, and $100,000 for the first round. This is the highest payout for a first-round loser at any Grand Slam.

The doubles (men's and women's) and mixed doubles prize money will also surge 9% to 18% from last year, respectively. The winners in men's and women's doubles will earn $750,000 per team, and the mixed doubles title winner will take home $200,000 per team.

In comparison, the total payout at the 2024 Australian Open was $56.4 million, the 2024 French Open was $58.4 million, and the 2024 Wimbledon Championships was $63.4 million.

The 2024 US Open will begin on August 26 and conclude on September 8. Novak Djokovic and Coco Gauff, both currently ranked World No. 2, will be tasked with defending their titles in New York this year. Djokovic won his 24th Grand Slam and fourth US Open title last year after beating Daniil Medvedev in the final 6-3, 7-6 (5), 6-3.

The Serb will be high in confidence for his title defense after recently bagging his maiden gold medal at the 2024 Paris Olympics. Meanwhile, Coco Gauff picked her first Grand Slam title on her home soil in 2023. She overcame Aryna Sabalenka in the final 2-6, 6-3, 6-2. In the process, she became the first American since Sloane Stephens in 2017 to win the title at Flushing Meadows.

Other defending champions at this year's tournament are Rajeev Ram and Joe Salisbury in men's doubles, Gabriela Dabrowski and Erin Routliffe in women's doubles, and Anna Danilina and Harri Heliovaara in mixed doubles.
