Rohan Bopanna and Matthew Ebden continued their stellar run at the US Open 2024, securing a dominant victory in their second-round men's doubles match on Friday, August 30. The second-seeded Indo-Australian duo showed their experience and chemistry on the court, cruising past the Spanish-Argentinean team of Roberto Carballes Baena and Federico Coria 6-2, 6-4.

Their convincing performance earned them a spot in the Round of 16 of the US Open 2024, as they look to make a deep run in the tournament.

Right from the first point, Rohan Bopanna and Matthew Ebden established themselves as the superior pair, using their aggressive style to dictate the match's tempo. Bopanna, with his booming serves and sharp volleys, complemented Ebden’s all-court game beautifully, leaving their opponents with little opportunity to break through. The first set was wrapped up at 6-2 as they took control early, securing breaks at key moments.

The second set was a tighter affair, with Carballes Baena and Coria attempting to mount a comeback. However, Bopanna and Ebden kept their composure throughout. Their ability to win crucial points under pressure kept them in the driver's seat, preventing any threats from their opponents.

Despite a few spirited rallies from the Spanish-Argentine pair, Bopanna and Ebden's consistency and high level of play were too much for them to handle. The Indo-Aussie pair maintained their lead, closing out the second set 6-4 and advancing to the next round without losing control of the match.

Who will Rohan Bopanna-Matthew Ebden face next?

Next up for Rohan Bopanna and Ebden are the 16th-seeded duo of Maximo Gonzalez and Andres Molteni, who have been making waves with their performances this year. The Argentine duo secured a straight-set victory (6-4, 6-4) against Nicolas Jarry and Cristian Rodriguez in the first round, showcasing their prowess on the hard courts of Flushing Meadows.

Gonzalez and Molteni asserted their dominance early on, breaking Jarry and Rodriguez’s serve to establish a 3-1 lead. Their aggressive baseline play, particularly Gonzalez’s powerful groundstrokes, combined with Molteni’s sharp net play, proved too much for their opponents. Despite a brief resistance from Jarry and Rodriguez, Gonzalez and Molteni closed out the set 6-4 with a series of well-executed plays.

The second set mirrored the first in terms of control. Gonzalez and Molteni maintained pressure, breaking serve once again and staying ahead throughout the set. Their ability to capitalize on key moments was evident as they sealed the set 6-4.

In their second round, Maximo Gonzalez and Andres Molteni downed James Tracy and Robert Cash 6-7(2), 7-6(4), 6-4 to set up a third-round clash with Rohan Bopanna and Matthew Ebden.
