"US Open revenge incoming and I'll be there" - Fans react to Naomi Osaka's remark on playing Iga Swiatek again on hardcourt after French Open loss

Naomi Osaka suffered a heartbreaking loss at the hands of Iga Swiatek in the second round of the 2024 French Open on Wednesday, May 29. She went down 7-6(1), 1-6, 7-5 despite having a match point on serve.

Osaka converted five break points (two more than Swiatek), hit eight aces against her opponent's zero, and won 114 out of the 223 total points during the three-hour-long battle. However, Swiatek came up clutch at crucial moments and advanced to the third round of her most successful Grand Slam thus far.

In her post-match press conference, Osaka admitted to breaking down after the contest before reassuring herself.

"I cried when I got off the court, but then, for me, I kind of realized that I was watching Iga win this tournament last year, and I was pregnant, and it was just my dream to be able to play her," Osaka said.

The former World No. 1 further suggested that she is ready for another showdown with Swiatek on hardcourt and find out how she fares. All four of Osaka's Major titles - two each at the Australian Open and US Open - have come on hardcourts.

"So when I kind of think of it like that, I think I’m doing pretty well. I feel like I played her on her better surface. I’m a hard-court kid, so, I would love to play her on my surface and see what happens," she added.

Tennis fans on X found Naomi Osaka's statement intriguing, with one of them claiming that the Japanese would get her revenge against Iga Swiatek at the 2024 US Open.

"US Open revenge incoming and I will be there to watch it," the fan wrote.

Another fan hoped for the two to face off during the latter stages of the New York Major.

"Hopefully it’s not a 1st or 2nd round matchup at the US Open," the fan wrote.

Naomi Osaka and Iga Swiatek's head-to-head record on hardcourts is currently tied at 1-1. The overall tally hangs 2-1 in Swiatek's favor courtesy of her recent win at the 2024 French Open.

Osaka and Swiatek played their first duel back in 2019 at the Canadian Open. This was for a spot in the quarterfinals of the event and the Japanese bettered the then 18-year-old, 7-6 (4), 6-4.

Swiatek avenged her loss by beating Osaka in the final of the Miami Open in 2022. She notably dished out a bagel to win the championship, winning 6-4, 6-0.
