The 44-year-old suffered a knee injury at the 2023 Wimbledon Championships and following the North American hard-court swing, she decided to take a break from the sport and focus on her recovery.

Williams returned to the court this year at the Sunshine double tournaments in Indian Wells and Miami. The American received a main-draw wildcard for both tournaments, however, she suffered shocking upsets in the opening rounds. This has been the last time she was seen in action.

During a recent interview with The Irish News, Venus Williams gave a huge career update, confirming that she had no plans of calling it quits anytime soon and wanted to play wherever she felt like playing.

"I’m not done with the racket yet... At this point, it’s about picking and choosing places I want to be. Last year I really wanted to play in Miami – home – because I hadn’t played there in like five years," Williams said.

The American then confidently stated that she knew she still possessed her A-game even though she had not competed in a long time.

"It’s nice to be in a place where I can pick and choose, but my game is always at a high level. Even if I’m not on tour, I always keep my game quite high," she added.

Williams, who boasts one of the most illustrious careers in tennis, has been a shadow of her former self over the past couple of years. "We can be so hard on ourselves – we’re always our biggest critics, and sometimes we forget to appreciate ourselves. Obviously, that can go in the opposite direction, where you appreciate yourself too much, then you can not achieve what you should because you haven’t pushed yourself – but it’s so important to be your biggest cheerleader.”

Though she may have been inactive on the court, off the court, Williams has been active with her other ventures. Recently, she launched a book titled 'Strive' which listed eight steps that would help one to improve themselves. She also discussed her love for Coco Gauff while promoting the book on a talk show.
