Alexander Zverev played a fantastic match to advance to the quarterfinals of the Australian Open. He faced Ugo Humbert and outplayed him in four sets, showing a focused approach that saw him waste no time. Former player and fellow German Andrea Petkovic asked him about seemingly being in a rush during the match, wondering if he had a date with his girlfriend after the game.

Zverev replied:

"I have a date with the practice courts later."
"I don't know, that's just the way I am. I don't really sit down a lot. I'm not a very stressful person, actually. I'm quite relaxed, but yeah, I guess I am quick on the tennis court—but only on the tennis court."

Zverev's girlfriend chuckled and blushed after the comment, with the camera panning immediately onto her.

Alexander Zverev will be facing Tommy Paul in the next round.

Alexander Zverev is proving to be a favorite

Alexander Zverev was picked by many as a dark horse candidate to win the event. He's proven in the past week that he's more of a favorite and less of a dark horse because his play has been fantastic. He's beaten some solid players and dropped only one set en route to the quarterfinals so far, and that was against Humbert in his most recent match.

The next one, however, is against Tommy Paul, who has been demolishing players, so there is a good chance that it might end up being the toughest match Zverev has yet had to play. The game with Paul has been highly problematic for him in the past, as they have faced each other twice so far and Zverev lost both times. Neither of those matches was recent, though, as the most recent one happened in 2022 at the Indian Wells Masters.

Zverev has tremendously improved since then, making the Roland Garros final in 2024 and nearly missing out on the Australian Open final last year when he lost in a five-set thriller against Medvedev. He's looking strong this year with a good chance to go to the final, but first, he'll need to beat a player he's never beaten before.
