A dramatic scene unfolded during the 2024 US Open qualifiers when Maxime Cressy, in a fit of frustration, threw items onto the court after losing a main draw spot from a winning position. The 27-year-old was looking to secure a spot in the main draw of the 2024 US Open after missing out last year.

Maxime Cressy began his 2024 US Open qualifying campaign by defeating Zsombor Piros 6-4, 3-6, 6-3 in the first qualifier and then registered a 6-1, 3-6, 7-6(10) win over Pierre-Hugues Herbert in the second qualifying round.

However in the final qualifying round, Cressy lost his spot in the main draw to Jan Choinski, who defeated the American 6-0, 6-7(5), 7-6(10). The Brit's impressive comeback wherein he saved three match points secured his spot in the main draw, where he will face Roberto Carballes Baena in the first round at Flushing Meadows.

Following his loss to Choinski, Maxime Cressy was visibly upset. He was seen sitting on his chair at the side of the court and packing his kit bag. In a bizarre turn of events, Cressy was seen throwing items from his back onto the court in a moment of frustration.

Maxime Cressy kicked off his North American hard court swing at the 2024 Atlanta Open, where he managed to defeat Radu Albot 6-3, 3-6, 7-5 in the first qualifier but ultimately lost his main draw spot to compatriot Zachary Svajda 6-4, 6-7(2), 4-6 in the second qualifier.

The former World No.31 then competed at the 2024 Mubadala Citi DC Open, where he secured a place in the main draw after defeating Tristan Schoolkate 6-1, 6-2 and Marc Polmans 6-3, 2-6, 6-0 in the qualifying rounds. However, his journey in the main draw was short lived as he fell to Daniel Elahi Galan 6-4, 6-3 in the first round.

Maxime Cressy's best result at the US Open in men's singles is reaching the second round, which he has accomplished in 2020 and 2021.

In 2020, Cressy was granted a wild card entry into the main draw. He kicked off his campaign by defeating Jozef Kovalik 6-1, 2-6, 6-4, 6-4 in the first round, only to be bested by the fourth seed, Stefanos Tsitsipas, in the second round with a score of 6-7(2), 3-6, 4-6.

The following year, Maxime Cressy secured his spot in the main draw after emerging victorious in the qualifying rounds. Seeded 29th in the qualifiers, he started strong by defeating Guido Andreozzi 6-4, 5-7, 7-5, and Joao Menezes 7-5, 6-3 in the first and second qualifiers, respectively. In the final qualifying match, the American overcame Ruben Bemelmans 4-6, 6-2, 7-5 to advance to the main draw.

In the main draw, Cressy pulled off an impressive upset by defeating the ninth seed, Pablo Carreno Busta in a thrilling five-set match with a score of 5-7, 4-6, 6-1, 6-4, 7-6 (7) in the first round. However, his journey came to an end in the second round when he was defeated by Nikoloz Basilashvili with a score of 6-7(3), 3-6, 5-7.
