An emotional Carlos Alcaraz broke down in tears after facing defeat to Novak Djokovic in the gold medal match at the 2024 Paris Olympics. The Spaniard was looking to become the youngest man in history to clinch gold in men's singles at the Olympics.

Alcaraz, seeded second at the event, was widely considered a favorite owing to his recent triumphs at the French Open and Wimbledon. The prestigious events were held at Roland Garros, meaning the Spaniard went back to the location where he clinched his third Grand Slam.

The 21-year-old took this form into Paris and kicked off his tournament with a routine win against Lebanon's Hady Habib and followed it up with a win against Netherlands' Tallon Griekspoor. He comfortably got rid of Roman Safiullin and then prevailed in a hard-fought two-setter against Tommy Paul. Alcaraz comfortably ousted Felix Auger-Aliassime in the semifinals to reach the summit clash in his maiden attempt.

The Spaniard didn't drop a single set en route to the final and became the youngest men's singles finalist since 1904.

In the final, Carlos Alcaraz faced his 37-year-old rival Novak Djokovic. The two men put on a show for two hours and 51 minutes in which the Serb prevailed 7-6(3), 7-6(2) to clinch the elusive gold and become the fifth player in history to clinch the Career Golden Slam in singles.

After his defeat, an emotional Alcaraz was seen uncontrollably breaking down in tears as he tried to wipe them off his face. Here's a clip of the Spaniard's heartbreaking moment:

Though his Olympic campaign may have come to a heartbreaking end, Carlos Alcaraz will still have a silver medal to show for his brilliant run to the final of the 2024 Paris Olympics.

The Spaniard will shift his focus toward the North American hardcourt swing where he will kick off his campaign at the 2024 Cincinnati Masters. He came very close to getting his hands on the trophy last year but was, coincidentally, defeated by Novak Djokovic.

The two men played yet another thriller where the Serb prevailed 5-7, 7-6(7), 7-6(4), saving a championship point en route, after three hours and 49 minutes of play. This was the longest best-of-three-set final in ATP history.

Carlos Alcaraz is set to be joined by his rivals Jannik SInner, Novak Djokovic, Alexander Zverev, Daniil Medvedev, and many others at the ATP 1000 event as of now.
