Carlos Alcaraz struggling to draw a smiley face on camera after a match win has gone viral amidst the Spaniard's 2024 Paris Olympics campaign. The 21-year-old is competing at the Olympic Games for the first time, and is in contention in both the singles as well as doubles.
Alcaraz's explosive rise to the upper echelons of tennis has made him a household name among the fans of the sport. He has continued to impress and garner praise from players and fans alike. The Spaniard had his breakthrough in the 2022 season when he clinched the US Open after defeating Casper Ruud in the final. He also became the youngest World No. 1 in ATP history.
Since then, he has lived up to his hype, capturing three more Grand Slams, the two most recent of which came at the French Open and Wimbledon this year. This also made him the sixth man in the Open Era to conquer the Channel Slam. He took this momentum into the Olympics, currently being held on the clay courts at Roland Garros.
The Spaniard is seeded second in the men's singles and has also entered doubles alongside his idol and 14-time French Open champion Rafael Nadal. Alcaraz had a comfortable start to his singles campaign, and ousted Lebanon's Hady Habib in the opening round in just one hour and 10 minutes.
Meanwhile, the blockbuster Spanish dream duo also got off to a winning start, defeating sixth seeds Andres Molteni and Maximo Gonzales of Argentina 7-6(4) 6-4 in one hour and 47 minutes.
While the four-time major champion's dream run continues, a reposted video of Carlos Alcaraz from 2023 has been making rounds on X (formerly Twitter), where he is seen struggling to draw a smiley face after a win. The video has already received 8.6 million views and 252,000 likes.
Carlos Alcaraz to continue his Paris Olympics campaign against Tallon Griekspoor
Carlos Alcaraz will face Tallon Griekspoor in the second round of the 2024 Paris Olympics. The two have faced each other twice on tour before, with both the meetings going the Spaniard's way. Though this will be their first meeting on clay court in the main draws, the two met in the qualifiers of Estoril in 2021, where Alcaraz prevailed as well.
Interestingly, in the men's doubles, Alcaraz and Rafael Nadal will face the Dutch duo of Tallon Griekspoor and Wesley Koolhof, meaning Alcaraz and Griekspoor will go up against each other twice. The 21-year-old's partner Nadal was eliminated in the men's singles by longtime rival Novak Djokovic 6-1 6-4, in what was their 60th meeting.
