Coco Gauff recently shared a heartwarming embrace with a fan who teared up after fulfilling his dream of meeting the World No. 2. The American has landed in Berlin as she gears up for the upcoming ecotrans Ladies Open where she will kick off her grass swing.

Gauff reached a career-high rank of 2 after she reached the semifinals of the 2024 French Open. She defeated the likes of Julia Avdeeva, Tamara Zidansek, Dayana Yastremska, Elisabetta Cocciaretto, and Ons Jabeur en route to the final 4 but fell to the eventual champion Iga Swiatek.

The 20-year-old has landed in Berlin for the ecotrans Ladies Open where she will begin her grass campaign. She is the top seed in the tournament and as a result, has received a bye in the first round and will play Ekaterina Alexandrova in her opening match. The Russian comfortably defeated Beatriz Haddad Maia 6-4, 6-4 in the first round.

After landing in Berlin, the reigning US Open champion was seen signing autographs for fans when one of the fans told her that he was a big fan of the American and wished for her to follow him on Instagram to which Gauff agreed. He then told her that he never thought he would meet her and started tearing up.

Gauff asked the fan not to cry as she consoled him with a heartwarming embrace and called the fan sweet.

Though she burst onto the scene with a win against Venus Williams in the first round of the 2019 Wimbledon, Coco Gauff is yet to find much success on the grass. It is the only Major where the American is yet to reach the quarterfinals.

Gauff was seeded fifth in Berlin last year and kicked off her run with a comfortable 6-3, 6-4 win against Katerina Siniakova. Coincidentally, her second-round opponent last year was also Ekaterina Alexandrova who stunned the American 6-4, 6-0.

This will be the fourth meeting between the two players with the World No. 2 leading their head-to-head 2-1.

After a disappointing outing at Wimbledon last year where she suffered a shocking defeat to compatriot Sofia Kenin in the opening round, Coco Gauff shifted into another gear at the North American hardcourt swing. She won the Citi Open, Cincinnati WTA 1000, and the US Open and has taken her form into the 2024 season as well.
