Coco Gauff is making her Olympic debut at Paris 2024, where she was also one of United States' flag bearers at the opening ceremony. The 20-year-old recently shared a hilarious clip of her and her teammates Jessica Pegula, Danielle Collins, and Desirae Krawczyk bowing to the Olympic logo.
Gauff has been enjoying every moment of her Olympic journey, as she has been posting many pictures and videos documenting her time with her teammates at the Olympic Village since her arrival in Paris.
On July 26, the World No. 2 shared a fun TikTok video, where she, along with her US teammates, can be seen bowing in front of a giant Olympic logo. The clip features a song playing in the background, with lyrics that go -
"No seriously what is this place? This is heaven."
"What the Olympics means to athletes," Gauff captioned the clip.
Pegula also shared a picture of their outing where they can be seen posing with the Olympics logo.
"We ready to get going tomorrow," Pegula wrote.
Gauff is part of the USA tennis contingent along with compatriots Emma Navarro, Pegula, Krawczyk, and Collins in the women’s team. The men’s team consists of Chris Eubanks, Marcos Giron, Taylor Fritz, Tommy Paul, Rajeev Ram, and Austin Krajicek.
The 20-year-old also had the honor of being the female flag bearer for the US team at the Opening Ceremony, joining basketball legend LeBron James. Gauff will be the youngest American to ever carry the flag during the Opening Ceremony, and the first US tennis player in history to do so.
"I never thought in a million years I would have the honor of carrying the American flag for Team USA in the Opening Ceremony,” Gauff said in a statement. “I could not be more proud to lead my teammates with LeBron as we showcase our dedication and passion on the biggest stage there is - at a moment where we can bring athletes and fans together from around the world," Gauff said.
Coco Gauff reflects on Olympic journey in heartfelt note to her 17-year-old self
Coco Gauff wrote a letter to her 17-year-old self who had to skip the previous Olympics in Tokyo due to COVID-19.
Gauff was supposed to compete in her first Olympics in 2020 (which was postponed to 2021), but she got infected with the virus just before the event. Now, three years later, the American is ready to represent her country in Paris.
In her letter, the American told her younger self not to be sad about missing the event and to look forward to the next one in Paris. Gauff also revealed that she would be part of the Olympics in Paris, and urged her 17-year-old self to have fun and not worry about the medals.
"In your phone under your vision notes, you wrote that you want to win a medal at the Olympics. Gold, silver, bronze – it doesn’t matter. But you’ve already won, you’ve made your childhood dream of playing at the Olympics, representing the United States, a real reality. And now, finally, you get to enjoy it," Coco Gauff wrote in the letter (shared exclusively by NBC Olympics).
In the singles competition, second seed Coco Gauff will commence her campaign against Australia's Ajla Tomljanovic. In women's doubles, top seeds Gauff and her partner Jessica Pegula will face the Australian duo of Ellen Perez and Daria Saville in the first round.
Additionally, in mixed doubles, Gauff is paired with America's top-ranked men's player, Taylor Fritz, and they will challenge Argentina's Nadia Podoroska and Maximo Gonzalez.
