Day 11 of the 2025 Australian Open saw a double-bounce controversy during the quarterfinal between Iga Swiatek and Emma Navarro. Swiatek eventually went on to register a comfortable win to reach the semifinals of the Melbourne Major.

The match did not start well for Navarro as Swiatek got an early break and in her aggressive style, raced away in the first set, winning it 6-1. The second set began on equal footing. Navarro found the accuracy of her shots and held her two service games to tie the set at 2-2.

During the set's fifth game, the eighth seed made her move, creating pressure on the Pole's serve. She even had a break point but Swiatek saved it to take it to second deuce. The second seed won the next point to reach advantage.

At this point, the contentious moment occurred. With Swiatek serving, both players were engaged in a backhand-to-backhand rally. Navarro changed the pace by using a drop shot. With the ball dying on her, it seemed that the Pole had reached there in time to send it over the net, subsequently winning the point with a backhand winner.

However, replays after the point show that the ball had clearly bounced twice before Swiatek's racquet made contact, and as such the game should have been at deuce again. Rather the Pole went ahead 3-2.

Navarro immediately informed the chair umpire but to no avail. The point was over, and no further video referrals were made regarding the incident.

After the controversial call her way, Iga Swiatek did not look back. She reeled off the next four games, defeating Navarro 6-1, 6-2, and advancing to the semifinals. This will be the Polish player's second semifinal appearance in Melbourne, her first being in 2022 where she lost in straight sets to Danielle Collins.

This time around, the second seed is slated to face another American semifinalist in Madison Keys. The head-to-head favors the Pole, as she leads 4-1 against the American opponent, and given her current form, she will be the odds-on favorite to reach her sixth Major final.

This Australian Open campaign has added significance for Swiatek as she is also in contention for taking back the No. 1 ranking from Aryna Sabalenka. If the Pole has a better outing than the Belarusian at Melbourne Park, she will be back at the top of the rankings.
