Daniil Medvedev had a huge outburst on the court before dropping a second set in a row after winning the first against Kasidit Samrej in the first round of the 2025 Australian Open. The Russian is seeded fifth at the Melbourne Major.
Medvedev started his match against World No. 418 in strong fashion, cruising through the first set 6-2. The Russian, returning to action after a hiatus to focus on personal matters, including the birth of his second child, initially showed no signs of rust.
However, the match took a dramatic turn in the second set. Medvedev's form dipped, and he was broken to lose the set 4-6. Things worsened in the third set as Medvedev found himself trailing 3-5, 15-30 while his Thai opponent, Samrej, served for the set. During a critical rally, a net cord altered the ball’s trajectory, resulting in a lost point for Medvedev.
Frustration boiled over as the Russian angrily smashed the net camera repeatedly, showcasing his temper. Meanwhile, Samrej capitalized on the momentum, taking the third set 6-3 and leaving the 28-year-old visibly shaken.
