Iga Swiatek was helped by her teammate and friend Maja Chwalinska while having a rare emotional moment during her match against Coco Gauff at the 2025 United Cup Final. Swiatek received a devastating defeat at the hands of Gauff, who gave Team USA a crucial lead in the final.

Swiatek led Poland into their second consecutive final of the event, while Team USA was the inaugural United Cup winner. With all eyes on the opening match between the World No. 2 and the World No. 3, the two didn't fail to deliver a tennis masterclass. After a brutal opening set, it was the 20-year-old, who took the opener 6-4.

With Gauff leading 6-4, 2-1, the usually calm Iga Swiatek was seen showing signs of nervousness during the changeover. However, the Pole superstar's friend Maja Chwalinska comforted her. She put ice bags on the Swiatek's neck and head to cool her down and made her laugh, putting the 23-year-old at ease.

The five-time Grand Slam champion was also struggling with some discomfort in her leg and called for the trainer during an off-court medical time-out.

Coco Gauff continued with her rampant display of tennis and clinched the high-quality battle 6-4, 6-4. Chwalinska was also seen consoling her friend after the match.

During her post-match press conference after Poland's win over Kazakhstan in the semifinals, Iga Swiatek, who defeated Elena Rybakina was asked if there was any reason she was showing more emotions on the court recently. The Pole discussed how her ample success over the past couple of years has brought a change in her mentality.

Swiatek said that she was trying to bring joy to her game.

"Honestly, for sure, like, for the past two years, you know, most of the wins I had weren't, like, I don't know, a surprise for me. Now it's not either, but, you know, I remember in 2022, like every quarterfinal was an amazing achievement, and last year, like, quarterfinal was, like, whoa, okay, I've got to do more."
"So I'm trying to find more just joy and these positive emotions. Obviously sometimes negative are going to come as well, but I feel like I can push with, like, when I'm having them, it's going to push me to work even harder," Iga Swiatek said.

She added:

"But for sure it's more emotional because we're playing for the team, not only for ourselves, so I think this also adds up to that. But I feel good, like, I feel that these emotions are pushing me further, not, like, I don't know, making me nervous or whatever."

After the United Cup, Iga Swiatek and Coco Gauff will kick off their campaigns at the 2025 Australian Open, a tournament yet to be won by either of them. Swiatek still leads off 11-3 in their head-to-head but the American has won their last two matches.
