Ilona Maher's partner from the recently-concluded Dancing With the Stars, Alan Bersten, hilariously copied her stunt from the show. Maher and Bersten were the runners-up in the 33rd edition of the competition.
The 28-year-old played a key role in the United States' women's rugby sevens team winning bronze at the Paris Olympics, and after this, she was offered a role in Dancing With the Stars, where she was partnered with Alan Bersten.
Maher produced some incredible dance routines during the course of the show, and one of them came on Disney Week. Here, all the performers prepared routines inspired by Disney characters, and Maher and Bersten's performance was inspired by the character of Lisa Madrigal from the movie, 'Encanto.' During this performance, the Olympian stunned everyone by picking Bersten on her shoulder.
Days after the conclusion of the show, Alan Bersten copied Ilona Maher's stunt comically with Ezra Sosa in his recent update. He uploaded a video on Instagram, where he picked up Sosa on his shoulders and ended the video with a laugh. The post's caption read:
"Don't worry @ezra.sosa I got you."

Ilona Maher opened up about executing the Disney Week stunt at DWTS
In an interview with Entertainment Tonight, Ilona Maher spoke about her training for picking up Bersten on her shoulders in the Disney Week routine. She revealed that her shoulder got sore while she was practicing for the week, and it was tough for her. Along with this, she also opened up about playing the character of Luisa in her performance.
“I’ve always seen myself in Luisa and it felt so right. And I think people always saw me as Luisa, even when the movie came out. So, to get to embody her in this way was really special for me and I think for them," said Ilona Maher.
Emphasizing her rigorous training for the stunt, she added:
“Uh, good. There was a time when it was a little sore. And when you have a whole man on one shoulder... I did it for you guys. Training for Olympic rugby is very very hard. But this week was tough. I looked tired sometimes when we were practicing it. So I guess it’s okay to look tired in rugby, you know? You just ran meters, but in dance, you gotta look good to do it, yeah.”
Ilona Maher recently opened up about commencing her content creation journey during the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
