Jannik Sinner successfully defended the Australian Open title, beating Alexander Zverev in the men's singles final. He came through in straight sets 6-3, 7-6(4), 6-4 to lift his third Grand Slam trophy.

The win will be particularly special for him given it comes months after the Italian was embroiled in a doping controversy. The World No. 1’s sample collected during a routine test around last year’s Indian Wells had come back positive for traces of Clostebol.

Sinner had dodged a sanction when the International Tennis Integrity Agency found that he was not at fault for what was deemed a contamination. The World Anti-Doping Agency’s (WADA), however, has appealed to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) to impose a one-to-two-year ban on the Italian and the hearing has now been fixed for April 16-17.

On being asked about the recent announcement of the hearing date during his post-match press conference, Sinner gave a very straightforward response. The Italian said he was not thinking about the hearing and just wanted to enjoy his Australian Open triumph.

"Tough to say. I’m not thinking about it at the moment. I just came off an amazing run here. I want to enjoy this moment to be honest," Jannik Sinner said. "And yes, the hearing, now we know the date, and that's it. Right now, I want to enjoy this moment."

Notably, the International Tennis Integrity Agency had last year confirmed that Sinner had been cleared of the doping charge by the independent tribunal as it found his explanation of being contaminated with Clostebol, a banned steroid, by a team member credible.

Jannik Sinner turned in an absolute masterclass in the summit clash of the 2025 Australian Open, defeating World No. 2 Alexander Zverev in straight sets to again lift the trophy that he captured 12 months ago.

The Italian was dominant throughout the encounter. In an incredible stat, he never faced a breakpoint in the match, making it just the third such occasion at a Grand Slam final.

Sinner had earlier in the tournament scored big wins over the likes of Ben Shelton, Alex De Minaur, Holger Rune, Marcos Giron, Tristan Schoolkate, and Nicolas Jarry. He dropped only two sets (one each against Schoolkate and Rune) over the course of the entire tournament.
